About this listen
When an unusual chain of drownings occurs in Upper Mystic Lake, two families are pitted against one another as they attempt to lay the blame for the loss of their only begotten children, at the feet of the other family. The Shakespearian tragedy forces everyone to reassess their own culpability as well as their way forward, while attempting to find closure.
Unbeknownst to those uninitiated in the world of the occult arts, there are powers at play that if taken lightly, could not only change the lives of those involved, but they could also unleash a demonic plague, allowing the unchecked proliferation of evil.
In preparation for the battle that is sure to come, a warlock, a sorceress, a Native American shaman, and an internet-savvy opportunist, attempt to wield the emerging energy in both benevolent and malevolent ways, often unsure of either the outcome or the cost demanded of those who wield dark magic.
As uneasy and unexpected alliances are formed in the ultimate battle between good and evil, an intuitive sheriff's detective is determined to solve the mysteries behind what others may call an accident, but the detective is certain...was murder.

A cleverly devised blend of ancient evil versus good ser in modern times
The story gripped me from the start and held my attention. Though it slowed in the latter 25%, you could feel the tension building and had a fair idea that the fight was yet far from finished. All the threads were wrapped up nicely at the end and left me satisfied.
The narrator struggled at times, and it sounded as though he would have been better served to take more frequent breaks to rest his voice. Otherwise he did a good job of bringing the story to life. Though, personally, I would have preferred more oomph and less of a flat delivery.
The author is certainly a writer to watch out for, and I’ll be checking his other books.

This could be huge...
This book is absolutely popping with ideas. So much so that it was hard to keep tabs on all the elements interwoven in the story,
As a practicing pagan witch, the subject matters weren't unknown to me, but the quick succession of the differing powers and spiritual beings was quite the whirlwind. This book could easily become a huge tome such as The Stand (Stephen King) or Swan Song (Robert McCammon) and it would provide an opportunity to fully explore the characters and their talents with the journey towards the final battle.
Thank you to Riano for providing the opportunity to listen to one of his stories.
