About this listen

An adventure story primarily concerned with themes of hope, justice, vengeance, mercy, and forgiveness, The Count of Monte Cristo focuses on a man who is wrongfully imprisoned, escapes from jail, acquires a fortune, and sets about getting revenge on those responsible for his imprisonment. However, his plans have devastating consequences for the innocent as well as the guilty.

Considered a literary classic today, The Count of Monte Cristo has become a fixture of Western literature, as inescapable and immediately identifiable as Mickey Mouse, Noah's flood, and the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Complete and unabridged; a 55-hour epic adventure!

Long winded, but a good storey

Quite complicated, lots of characters and in some places too long winded. However, a great storey over all. I think if I had been reading this I'd have got bored, or would have forgotten who was who, so it was good to have it as an audio book

All time great

Absolutely one of the all time greats and an absolute classic. I’ve been meaning to read this book since I was a teenager and due to time constraints and being unable to find a physical copy (I prefer reading an actual book to digitally) I was struggling to fulfil this wish.

Being able to listen to this audiobook over a few weeks was great and although it is a difficult story to follow at times it is all made clear toward the end. I would however recommend checking up on different characters and names on Google every so often to refresh your memory and make following the story easier.

10/10 would recommend!

narrator

the most wonderful story destroyed by the narrator. his female voices were like ones of the Ugly Sisters in Drag, all pathetic, all desperate and all the same. The mens voices were indistinguishable.

Great story. excellent naration

as most people I sort of knew the basic plot but the full detail is extraordinary. at 43 hours long It's the longest audio book I have ever listened to but well worth perseverance as it did not drag but kept moving on. a great commentary on the times as well and some fascinating historical commentary. highly recommended.
