Summary

Florence Scovel Shinn profoundly altered the approach to personal growth and spiritual exploration. This collection features all four of her classic works, offering a wealth of affirmations and success stories.

The Game of Life and How to Play It

First published in 1925, The Game of Life and How to Play It has inspired thousands of people to find a sense of purpose. Florence Scovel Shinn asserts that life is not a battle but a game of giving and receiving. Whatever we place into the world will eventually be returned to us. This audiobook will help listeners discover how the mind plays a leading role in the game of life.

Your Word Is Your Wand

Your Word Is Your Wand contains powerful affirmations that will help listeners obtain what they want in life and banish what they don't. As applicable today as it was in 1928, this critical guide has been a resource for many people seeking to improve their situations and conditions.

The Secret Door to Success

Florence Scovel Shinn established herself as one of the most practical prosperity writers of her era. The Secret Door to Success is a series of talks and lectures given by Shinn that will show listeners how to discover the secret knowledge of success through the power of spiritual law.

The Power of the Spoken Word

Words are powerful, life-changing tools. By focusing our attention on how we speak and think, we can change our lives for the better. The Power of the Spoken Word emphasizes the importance of affirmations to help listeners make the positive changes they've always wanted to make.

A Great Abridged Audiobook

I have been reading Florence Scovel Shinn for many years now and often read at least one of her books every three months. I was delighted to have found this unabridged audio version of her entire works.

The way I use Audible mostly is to play the audio and read along at the same time. Many titles I have on Audible are audios of books I already own physically.

I was amazed that this unabridged audio book had swathes of text missing from the audio that are to be found in the printed version. Also it is not as faithful to the text as it should be as it omits or changes some words even in sentences.

I must admit it was hard to follow the printed words with what is on the audio as entire pages are not recorded. I got lost many times when following along.

I have given this book 4 stars in all ratings as any work that shares the lovingness of Florence Scovel Shinn is a blessing to the world.

Now when I listen to this I have to put away my printed copies of the books and understand that this is an abridged version of her works. For the many other titles I have I still follow along listening and reading at the same time.

This audiobook of Florence Scovel Shinn's works is a must have, but bear in mind, if you love her works like I do, that it does not contain all the content that can be found in the printed originals.

For shifting energy, this book is very helpful

I enjoyed this book which I have been listening to over the past few weeks. It has helped me stay focused on where I want my mind to be. If you are on a personal journey, in my opinion this is a great book to listen to and has many gifts within its pages.

Great no doubt, shame about the disrupting music

I loved the idea of compiling Florence's complete works and was looking forward to this audio. Sadly there is random music at the end of chapters that quite frankly ruins this audio book experience. I'm in two minds about returning the book and will most likely return it just on this issue as the music is high pitched and plays randomly disrupting the content and flow of the amazing books being read. I say to the author please consider an audio book version with no accompanying music for those of us with sensitive ears.

good book, narration not so much

this book is very good and thoughtful. the trouble with it is the narration. The silly accents ruin it to be honest....

Should be narrated by a woman...

Would you try another book from Florence Scovel Shinn and/or Cary Valentine?

The material is amazing, as I have read Mrs. Shinn's books. Although having a man narrate the audio book isn't the best choice, and to add to that, he sounds a bit racist when quoting a man from India, using a fake Indian accent. Not necessary!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Cary Valentine?

A female who has read the book.

Any additional comments?

It would be great if you were to re-release this fine work with a female voice instead.

Material is Great but the Performance, Not so Much

In reading the reviews prior to purchasing, I saw some negative comments about the performance. I've purchased many books through Audible and hadn't had one I really disliked so I thought I'd give the sample a listen to see how bad it was. The sample isn't bad at all so I thought, "OK, I'll buy it."

Now, in fairness, 80-90% of the reading is ok-good but it's that 10-20% that makes me cringe quite honestly. While I can appreciate a reading that doesn't sound robotic, I don't like to be read to like I'm 5 years old either. It's just too much. I like listening to my books either early in the morning or before I go to bed and I couldn't do it with this book. It's just to mmmm...jarring. Jarring seems like the right word.

Well, the book itself is fine but also agree that perhaps a woman reading would have been nicer since the author was a woman also but that's not a deal breaker for me. Words are words. Just didn't care for the overly animated sections.

I think this is the first negative review of a performance I've given so that's something to consider. Sorry, sir but maybe bring it down a notch.

Missing a lot

This audio is missing a lot of the book contents! Instead of playing music at end of each chapter you should have included the book content...

The Content is Brilliant, BUT...

I’ve been a Florence Skovel Shinn devotee since I first read “The Game of Life and How to Play It” decades ago. I’ve subsequently read all of her volumes many times, and I highly recommend them to everyone I know. Because I spend many hours per week on the road I thought listening to the books would be both a convenient and meaningful way to absorb the lessons. That might have proven true if literally anyone else had served as reader. Maybe it’s just me, but I find Cary Valentine’s voice supremely irritating. It’s just way too over the top for me. It sounds as though the book is being read by Al Franken’s “Stuart Smalley” SNL character. I kept expecting to hear Valentine say “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!”
