About this listen
Jack was never “right,” but that’s a lot of what made him magnetic to other people.
When he was younger, he was that guy that girls wanted to be around.
People were drawn in by him, even later on when there wasn’t much of him left.
I never understood that. He never really put a lot of energy into grooming and maintaining relationships with people.
I guess when you see someone that is content spending their time alone, it creates a vacuum and people flood in like water choking a storm drain.
Even as his deterioration became apparent, people threw him lifelines. The tragedy of Jack was that he always seemed so close to salvageable. If you loved him, and I did, you could never stop trying to pull him back into the lifeboat, but you just couldn’t. He was always just out of reach. It would have been easier to cut him loose if he was just an obvious lost cause. The fact that the world left him behind is no reason to ignore his existence. It’s the opposite. The fact that the world left him behind is the reason someone needs to tell his story.
Transgressive author Christopher J. Stockwell's absurdist and satirical take on transgressive fiction goes beyond the confined by norms paradigm and into the gutter.
Charles Bukowski’s L.A. is an alcohol-induced blackout. Irvine Welsh’s Scotland is a blue-faced overdose. Christopher Stockwell’s Seattle is a medically-prescribed nightmare. The down and out series takes you there and shows you the view you can only get from the gutter. Enjoy.

Beautiful Tribute to a Life
This book is an emotional, deeply personal exploration of love, loss, and the complexities of human connection. The story of Jack is both heartbreaking and mesmerizing

Great series of books
This 3 in 1 series is a great listen as it dives into the haunting and magnetic exploration of a character who is captivating, regardless of his flaws. Jack's journey slowly unravels as the books go through themes of human connection, loss, and loving someone who is constantly slipping away. I appreciated the satirical style, making it both darkly funny and poignant. A great listen when traveling for some entertainment.

A great and raw depiction of modern-day humanity
Christopher J. Stockwell’s The Complete Down and Out in Seattle and Tacoma Series is a raw, gripping portrayal of life on society’s edge, following the haunting journey of Jack through a dark, absurd, and painfully real Seattle. Blending grit, satire, and emotional depth, this series humanises the outcasts with unflinching honesty, which is perfect for fans of bold, transgressive fiction that lingers long after reading. Highly recommend!

Haunted by Jack
Stockwell's audiobook gutted me in the best way. The narrator perfectly captures that hollow feeling of loving someone who's always just beyond saving. Having watched my own friend spiral, this hit uncomfortably close to home - those magnetic people who never quite fit but draw everyone in anyway. What makes this story special isn't its grittiness (though there's plenty), but how it honors those society discards without romanticizing their destruction. I listened twice back-to-back, hearing new layers each time. Not for the faint-hearted, but absolutely worth experiencing.
