About this listen

Debut novel of adventure, romance and interplanetary intrigue from a new voice in science fiction.

When her crewmate, Danny, is murdered on the colony of Volhynia, Central Corps engineer Commander Elena Shaw is shocked to learn the main suspect is her lover, Treiko Zajec. She knows Trey is innocent – he was with her when Danny was killed. So who is the real killer and why are the cops framing an innocent man?

Retracing Danny’s last hours, she discovers that his death may be tied to a tragedy from the past. For twenty-five years, Central Gov has been lying about the mystery, even willing to go to war to protect their secrets. Secrets that hide a conspiracy so deep within Central Gov that it threatens all of human civilization throughout the inhabited reaches of the galaxy – and beyond.

boring

the prologue was a count down to an eveñt and contained no tension or suspense. The narrator seemed to be daydreaming. The next two chapters consisted of two characters meeting in a bar. God knows how they ended up leaving together as the writing portrayed no chemistry between them. I gave up when the "plot" veered towards a bit of titillation with them starting to remove each other's clothes. I had no connection to the characters and all I could think was "get this stab at bsd romantic fiction out of your system and actually write something decent" Two chapters in and I literally had no idea what the writer was trying to achieve. very little world building had taken place and I couldn't give two hoots about any character that had been introduced. The narrator could of been reading a shopping list rather than describing a love trist. absolutely no emotion in the performance whatsoever. if you can't tell already, I really resent spending a credit on this audio book.
