Crushingly hopeless, and recommended!
This short story will be a satisfying ride for fans of the morbid and surreal, and a great curio for fans of Ketchum’s other works.

What's in the box?
Jack Ketchum has an inimitable style that always makes me feel a mix of intrigue and existential dread. This story is no different. In this very short story, we are left wondering what's in the box? This story left me pondering long after I finished listening.
The narration by Mr. Ketchum is fantastic as well. Listening to Jack Ketchum speak is like being told a story by an old friend over a glass of whiskey by the fire.
Overall, another fantastic story by Jack Ketchum. 5 stars.

What’s inside the box?
This audiobook was not what I expected. I thought that it would be akin to other Ketchum gruesome and in-your-face horror novels such as ‘Off Season’ and ‘The Girl Next Door’. Instead, it was a gore-free story, yet still retained the feeling of unease that Ketchum is known for.
I really enjoy listening to audiobooks read by their author, as the writer knows the intricacies of the text intimately and can adapt their reading accordingly. Ketchum was an excellent narrator, his warm and softly-spoken voice kept my attention throughout the short runtime and conveyed the nuances of the text.
However, at the end of the audiobook I felt confused regarding the actual plot and the message of the story. I felt as if I had been given all the jigsaw pieces, but that I had missed some key information as to how they all fit together. I’m afraid I missed any allegory or symbolism, but this is no doubt due to my lack of intelligence rather than the writing! The audiobook deserves a repeat listen, and maybe I will ‘get it’ next time. And regardless of any such criticism regarding the story, Ketchum’s writing talent is beyond doubt.
In conclusion, I recommend this audiobook to people who like their horror low-key and ambiguous.
Rest in peace Mr. Ketchum, you are sorely missed.

Not worth the money, extreemly short short story.
At only 21 minutes long this is a short, short story and I kind of regret paying £2.62 for it. It was good but it felt like the author just couldn't be bothered to finish it. I do like Jack Ketchum but this was disappointing.

Powerful
A brilliant short story told in a fabulously understated style. The narrator really knew where to put the punch.
