Summary
How do you start a new chapter when you haven't closed the book on the last one?
Eighteen months ago, Autumn Divac's husband went missing. Her desperate search has yielded no answers—she still has no idea where he went or why. After being happily married for twenty years, she can't imagine moving forward without him, but for the sake of their two teenage children, she has to try.
Autumn takes her kids home for the summer to the charming beachside town where she was raised. She seeks comfort by working alongside her mother and aunt at their quaint bookshop, only to learn that her daughter is facing a life change neither of them saw coming and her mother has been hiding a terrible secret for years. And when she runs into Quinn Vanderbilt—the boy who stole her heart in high school—old feelings start to bubble up again. Is she free to love him, or should she hold out hope for her husband's return? She can only trust her heart…and hope it won't lead her astray.

How to win good review check list
I have read almost every single title this author has written. Lets say this book may make me stop.
The narrator was horrible very condescending tone. It made me want to smack every character that she used that voice with.
Then after reading as many titles from this author as I have it felt like the author wanted to go away from her normal writing and be a "relevant" or "award winning" author.
checklist includes
Political topics - Check
LBGTQ Character or topic - Check
Try to show both sides of Point of View - Check
I hated the ending. Why it wasn't an ending. It stopped. Just Stopped. I guess you could say issues were "resolved" but they weren't
I am so disappointed. I like books that make me think but this one left me on the ledge and no net below to catch me.
I may not be a reader of this author for long. Anyone want my 50 pin?

Kidnappings, Child Rape, Suicide and Cancer Deaths
This book and performance were both horrible. The cover art and title are completely misleading. It has absolutely nothing to do with a bookstore or the beach. Far fetched scenarios, or at least too many in one book, and some of the worst dialogue I've ever read. The voice performance makes the dialogue even more painful. The character development is also pretty lacking, specifically for "the brother" who isn't much more than several water polo scholarship references, I don't know why she even bothered giving him a name. Save your credits for something better.

Awful story
This was perhaps the worst book I’ve ever experienced (over a long lifetime of reading and listens to books). There is no character development, so it is hard to care about the plot, if there is one. It would give away too much if I were to comment more on why I have such a negative opinion. Be forewarned that there is abundant unbelievable and unnecessary trauma. The trauma would be warranted only if it enriched the characters or plot, which it does neither. I stuck through to the end, and now I’m just glad it’s over.
I also found the narrator’s voice to be grating.

Good storyline
Could have been a better ending - I didn’t even realize it was the ending. There seemed to be a lot of loose ends.

Incredible story as always
Love Brenda Novak’s books! It has more moral ambiguity than I’m happy with but I do understand the characters and am as drawn to them as always!

The best summer read of 2021
This is by far one of the best summer reads I have read in years. I was captivated right from the start. With Autumn's husband disappearing to finding out about her father. The summer loves that turn into more and the unexpected twists and turns. I didn't want it to end. I felt like I was right there in Sable Beach with Autumn, Mary, Taylor and Caden. I need more…

This is an emotionally charged story of a family starting over after tragedy strikes. The story has lots of twists and turns that keep you captivated. A must read!

A little bit of everything
This is my first book from this author. I picked up this audio because of a book club. I thought the premise of the story was intriguing. There is a lot going on in this book. Maybe to many issues made it less enjoyable. The missing husband, kidnapping, sexual abuse, past love, coming out gay and teen pregnancy is just a few of the issues handled in the book. There are parts of the book I really enjoyed. I think it just kept jumping from one issue to another. I also felt like everything just wrapped up in the end too quickly.
