Good book x

Overall it was quite useful. I just felt like some things were repetitive. Personally I felt like it spoke to a certain type of women - the corporate high achieving boss. So I couldn’t relate as much as I would have hoped. I also felt that perhaps the author could have been more vulnerable with us when discussing elements of her story. But overall it was good! Xx

A valid but conflicting book

This book does so well at capturing the genuine reality of working mums, and whilst it’s clear that the author truly cares about the topic it’s just another book perpetuating the issue, encouraging women to do everything but, the reality is never that simple.

It would be refreshing to talk about some of the real issues, like the fact we work 9-5 because of Henry Ford, the working week was never designed for women or mums/primary carers. And that it’s okay for the return to work to feel uncomfortable, unnatural and scary.

We need to work on the real feminist issues rather than perpetuate the cycle. Women deserve economic independence whilst raising their children as a SAHM or a working mum. They shouldn’t have to return because their jobs are only kept for 12 months, or they get 90% of their pay for 6 weeks then SMP.

There’s so much, and it’s a minefield but it should be discussed and challenged.
