Summary

Based on true events involving two men, both desperate and looking for a better life.

The Australian Citizenship Ceremony tells the story of Awsame (awe-sa-me) and Barrisa (ba-ris-a), who escape their homelands in Africa and face the trials of hunger, people smuggling, exploitation, and the politics of being a modern-day refugee. The hardships they face forge the characters they become with hope, determination, and humor, their only ammunition as they tackle the challenges of integration and migrant life.

A colorful and enriching story.

Ended up staying in my car to finish in 1 sitting.

It's a "how to be funny guide" wrapped around a heartwarming story. Particularly pertinent in the modern refugee crisis, it humanises every story in the new we see of migrants being turned away at borders or tying while crossing the med/channel.

Enjoyable witticisms, likeable characters, good performance.
