About this listen
My life was turned upside down when my mate arrived at our ceremony with a stunning stranger in his arms.
In just a few days, I went from being the alpha female to a social outcast, even though I had risked my life to protect my pack.
But I refused to let this defeat me.
Instead, I used my experiences to become stronger.
And eventually, I met someone who loved me unconditionally and saved me from the darkness that had consumed me.
Meanwhile, my former mate fell victim to a curse brought on by his ill-fated love for an evil witch.
His love for her decayed faster than his cursed body, and she vanished, taking two werewolf packs with her.
But I know she won't stop there. Her thirst for power and destruction is insatiable.
Can I defeat her with love?
Or will she destroy my life again?
Only time will tell...

My first issue which is a tiny niggle really is that this is not an enemies to lovers story, Lucas already loved Aria, and she respected him even before she knew he was alpha of another pack. The second is slightly bigger and that is, who is the girl on the cover of this book? She's not Aria, as our main character has red hair (this is mentioned several times in the story and I love that it's reflected in the colour of her wolf too) so is the person on the cover the evil witch lady, i think possibly as she seems to be wearing a necklace of somesort which is shown to be signiclater but if so that doesn't really sit right with the way the story is presented to us ad yes she is the reason that Aria is pushed out and forced to find herself but the story is Arias journey not this other person's. Aria is the character we follow and come to love and watch emerge into herself from the shadows of everyone's preconceived notions of her, so to me she should be front and centre on the cover.
Oswald is the biggest alpha hole of the worst kind and all the sorts of toxic alpha traits I really hate. no way should that man be the leader of anything, the way he treats his omegas and lowers of his pack makes your skin cruel. it was sad to see how obediently Aria and the other pack members accepted this sort of leadership.
The story is so well written, sharing with the reader all the connotations of someone leaving an abusive family, the guilt and blame it annotes in the person attempting to do the leaving. The struggle to trust anything outside of that situation as real or true, the internal battle of knowing a situation is wrong and unfair but being so beaten down there's no outward fight, just blind compliance. Watching Aria gradually find the strength and belief in her own self worth to walk away from that situation, attempting to come to terms with the abuse and finding the courage to allow herself to feel for others again was so well done, if you removed the supernatural elements this story would stand on its own as a story of a survivor. When adding the complications of a supernatural world and the politics of this, it makes for a very gripping read/listen.
Willa James does a fantastic job of narrating this story, she really gives heart to Aria and helps the listener connect with her on her journey through the pain and back to her sense of self. The playful tones she gives to Dax and Lucas at times as well as Lucass protective air towards Aria and his pack really help to bring out the stark contrast in them and Oswald.
I liked that this was a stand alone book that was part of a series so can be enjoyed as it is in its own right, but also gives us enough hints of the world building and magic systems to have you totally intrigued and wanting to explore more of the Mates Redemption series.
I was given this audiobook for free and have left this review voluntarily.
