Summary
Ray is not a bad guy. He mostly did not cheat on his heavily pregnant wife. He only sometimes despises every one of his friends. And though his career as a freelance tech journalist is dismal and he spends his afternoons churning out third-rate listicles in his boxer briefs, he dreams of making a difference.
But Ray is about to learn that his special talent is for making things worse.

Brilliant
I strongly value the author's gift for observation. This novel has a rich vein of low-key, yet accurate descriptions of modern life. The sense of self loathing that seeps through every page shows that the author doesn't necessarily approve of the character traits he writes in his characters, but he can certainly identify with them. It isn't easy to admit that.

Heartbreaking, hilarious and borderline insane...
I laughed, I cringed, I prayed to god I was nothing like the lead character whilst secretly sharing at least two worryingly similar traits. Joe Dunthorne is a wonderfully tragic narrator and his writing id shocking, ridiculous, funny and desperately sad in equal measure. I loved it.

an author who can narrate as well as he writes
thoroughly enjoyed this story, and Dunthorne carries out comedic timing and reading style with aplomb.
as has been the case in his previous two books the central character is cringly pathetic but also easy to identify with.
I really enjoyed the consistent pace of the story, and the economical use of language.
and it's funny as all hell

not my stile
I found the writing to be quite enjoyable however the story kind of made me want to scratch an itch inside my brain. Not for the ones that a're looking for a happy ending, however painfully realistic
