About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Ten captivating stories of love, loss, adventure and resilience celebrating LGBTQ+ heroes, published as a collection of queer classics for the first time.
These are the fairy tales that history forgot - or concealed. Tales in which gender is fluid and where queer stories can have a happy ending. From the humble sailor who finds his handsome prince to the transgender market girl who becomes queen, from Europe to Asia via the African savannah, LGBTQ+ folklore researcher Pete Jordi Wood has combed through generations of history and collected and adapted ten unforgettable stories featuring queer characters.

A sweet and educational listen
This collection was recommended by Liz Gotauco and I am very happy that I picked it up.
I have become very interested in folk tales and fairy stories in the last few years and this collection was just the kind of thing I was looking for. I particularly appreciated the clear authors notes at the end which explained some of the research process. It was very nice to see stories from several different traditions included.
There is a child friendly cadence throughout, which I’m sure parents would appreciate. Several concepts and identities are clearly expressed in understandable language and while an adult might find that a little odd, it is very much in keeping with the common writing style of a fairy tale.
I hope that others enjoy this endearing collection as much as I did.
