About this listen
From the bestselling author of Christmas at The Highland Flower Shop writing as Lucy Coleman, comes a brand new series set in a Cornish Farmhouse.
When Jess Newman married the love of her life Ben she was sure they had what it took to stay together forever. So when Ben falls out of love with her only to promptly fall in the arms of new girlfriend, Naomi, she really doesn't know how to come to terms with their divorce.
Thankfully Jess's granddad, Gabe, has the perfect place for Jess and her eight-year-old daughter Lola to start afresh when he hands them the keys to his holiday home in Cornwall, a beautiful albeit rundown farmhouse–the fresh countryside air, the saffron buns and the seaside breeze might just be what the doctor ordered but soon it's clear this fresh start includes a whole new set of complications...

Sweet but sickly
Rather cliched and over written but good for a gentle listen.
The transition from misery to happiness is uplifting.

Enjoyable & heart warming nonsense
The narrator made the lead character sound simple & child like, which was irritating. The story was twee & predictable, however it was also enjoyable & heart warming. Mixed feelings. While I thought I wouldn't get through it, by the end I'd warmed to it. Not sure I'd be willing to pay for part 2 though!

A cute, cosy story with a sweet romatic subplot
I did really enjoy this book. It was cosy and fun and I was happy with the direction the plot took. The ending was lovely. I was glad that most, if not all, obstacles were just on a personal level for Jess to overcome and there were no major dramas caused by outside actors. It was wonderful going through Jess' journey with her.
There were just a few things I would prefer had gone differently. Firstly, I know it's not strictly a romance and what romance was there was a sweet one, but I just wish that kisses had been described a bit more, especially the first kiss. There was also quite a lot of description of very specifically what they were doing in renovations. For me, personally, that isn't an interest, although I understand it could be a selling point for other people.
As for the narration, I was quite torn here too. The narrator was excellent at capturing emotion, and the various characters were generally distinct without being overdone. But, quite often, I struggled to discern between dialogue and the FMC's inner thoughts, which meant I didn't know if she had actually said some things aloud or just thought them.
Overall, an enjoyable read, and I think people who aren't strictly looking for sweeping romance, and especially those who are into rennovation projects will like it even more than I did.

Struggled to finish
For me, the level of mundane description slowed the pace of the book too much. Very little happens amidst the flowery description. Characters seemed mainly two dimensional and I was bored.

Enjoyable Story
Really enjoyed the story but sadly I felt it didn’t really move that much and the ending was a little flat.

A gentle story of perseverance and faith.
Easy, comfortable listening to a story of challenges and growing strength. Good narration and characters. Hope that there is a sequel.
