Summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Michael Savage calls out the mass hysteria mongers and their methods, and shows Americans that we must look to history to understand the present and avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.

Since Donald Trump's historic ascendance to the presidency, American politics have reached a boiling point. Social and economic issues, even national security, have become loud, violent flashpoints for political rivals in the government, in the media and on the streets. This collective derangement has a name: mass hysteria.

In his new book, Stop Mass Hysteria, number one New York Times best-selling author Michael Savage not only deconstructs the left's unhinged response to traditional American values like borders, language, and culture, but takes the listener on an unprecedented journey through mass hysteria's long history in the United States. From Christopher Columbus to the Salem Witch trials to the so-called "Red Scares" of the 1930s and 40s and much more, Dr. Savage recounts the many times collective insanity has gripped the American public - often prompted by sinister politicians with ulterior motives.

Dr. Savage provides vital context for the common elements of dozens of outbreaks of mass hysteria in the past, their causes, their short and long-term effects, and the tactics of the puppet masters who duped gullible masses into fearing threats both real and imagined. By shining a light on the true nature and causes of American mass hysteria in the past, Savage provides an insightful look into who and what is causing dangerous unrest in our lives - and why.

A Hard Truth

I'd never heard of Michael Savage until stumbling across this book. The title interested me, especially after witnessing what went on in the world during 2020 and 2021.

Right off the bat, Savage is as his name suggests, a man who absolutely does not mince his words. If you are easily offended, then this book is certainly not for you. however, I would say it's core is totally valid. Although I do not agree with everything Savage says here, the central tenet of his observations are hard to argue with. We have leant so far to the left politically speaking over the past 15 or so years, that Savage redresses the balance here with some scathing truths.

However, the primary theme of this book is mass hysteria and in that, this book provides quite a litany of examples throughout history, many of which most readers will not be aware. So, in terms of a history lesson on the subject, it's certainly educational.

However, as much as I agreed with a lot of what Savage had to say, I did find I could only listen to the book in relatively short sessions. Often the vitriol is quite evident in how the narrator reads the book. It's almost at times as if Savage himself is reading it. If you can tune out the sometimes carping tone, you will find that Savage has a point. It will be an uncomfortable one for many readers used to a more softly delivered perspective.

Where I strongly disagree with Savage, is his use of the Bible and his faith to tub thump from. To me, it plays into a negative trope of the religious zealot or "Bible basher" and doesn't help his cause. I find this somewhat undermines the very argument he's trying to promote, rather like a elderly female Ufologist who talks to her cats during some of her videos. That's only playing right into a negative stereotype.

It's clear from Savage's writing that he's angry and frustrated at the state of the woke world and the repeated incidents of mass hysteria. He'd have an absolute field day and case study par excellence on that front with regard the COVID pandemic scare and the BLM riots of 2020.

Still, having lived through the COVID mass hysteria phenomenon, I can only agree with Savage's myriad examples throughout history of the effects and causes of mass hysteria.

Although somewhat difficult to listen to at times, I found myself unable to disagree with most of what's being said here. Where Savage falls down a little and hurts his own message, is in how he sometimes delivers it.
