Story
After a political scandal, fledgling lobbyist Dempsey Jo Killebrew is left almost broke, unemployed, and homeless. She reluctantly accepts to refurbish Birdsong, the old family place in Guthrie, Georgia. But, oh, is Dempsey in for a surprise. "Bird Droppings" would more aptly describe the moldering Pepto Bismol - pink dump. There's also a murderously grumpy old lady who has claimed squatter's rights and isn't moving out. Ever.

Story
Grace Stanton’s life as a rising media star and beloved lifestyle blogger takes a surprising turn when she catches her husband cheating and torpedoes his pricey sports car straight into the family swimming pool. Grace suddenly finds herself locked out of her palatial home, checking account, and even the blog she has worked so hard to develop in her signature style. Moving in with her widowed mother, who owns and lives above a rundown beach bar called The Sandbox, is less than ideal. So is attending court-mandated weekly "divorce recovery" therapy sessions with three other women and one man for whom betrayal seems to be the only commonality. When their “divorce coach” starts to act suspiciously, they decide to start having their own Wednesday "Ladies' Night" sessions at The Sandbox, and the unanticipated bonds that develop lead the members of the group to try and find closure in ways they never imagined. Can Grace figure out a new way home and discover how strong she needs to be to get there?

Story
Tracy Briggs has finally gotten her act together. She’s focusing on her own life and helping her hearing-impaired son learn to talk. With her sister married and exploring a new career, Tracy has begun to run the family’s magazine business and feels her life is pretty much perfect. That is, until her son’s deadbeat dad shows up in Magnolia Grove asking for a second chance. Now that her son is getting the help he needs and a promising new romance with his teacher is in bloom, Tracy wants to keep her life just as it is. But her ex isn’t taking no for an answer.
Summary
In Spring Fever, the New York Times best-selling author Mary Kay Andrews delivers her delicious new escapist novel about small towns, old flames, and deep secrets.
Annajane Hudgens truly believes she is over her ex-husband, Mason Bayless. They’ve been divorced for four years, she’s engaged to a new, terrific guy, and she’s ready to leave the small town where she and Mason had so much history. She is so over Mason that she has absolutely no problem attending his wedding to the beautiful, intelligent, delightful Celia.
But when fate intervenes and the wedding is called to a halt as the bride is literally walking down the aisle, Annajane begins to realize that maybe she’s been given a second chance. Maybe everything happens for a reason. And maybe, just maybe, she wants Mason back.
But there are secrets afoot in this small southern town. On the peaceful surface of Hideaway Lake, Annajane discovers that the past is never really gone. Even if there are people determined to keep Annajane from getting what she wants, happiness might be hers for the taking, and the life she once had with Mason in this sleepy lake town might be in her future.

Still funny, interesting characters, laughs
I've read and/or listened to all of the Mary Kay Andrews books. After reading a couple of other reviews for this book, I was hesitant to buy. My sister convinced me after she got the hardback. Yes, I did stay up way too late two nights in a row wanting to hear what happened next. Pokey was my favorite character because she didn't give a rip about what anyone said.
As usual with Mary Kay's books, I laughed out loud at many parts because the dialog between her characters is strong. Maybe it is because I have lived in the south all my life that many of the references resonated with me. I enjoyed this entertaining little respite from reality. Think I will go have myself a cherry soda.

Light and sweet
Any additional comments?
This is a story about rediscovering lost love and friendship.
AnnaJane and Mason used to be married, so when she finds herself at Mason's wedding, she starts thinking about what happened to end their marriage and how she still loves him--despite being engaged to another man, as well. The story is about Annajane and Mason, but also small town living, the south and friendship. Conflict comes at Annajane and Mason in the form of their fiancees, family members and the business that Mason's family owns and which employs all the locals.
Kathleen McInerney did a great job with the Southern accent and distinguishing between different characters.
It's not deep, but it's well told and good chick-lit.

Story Fun, Narration Disappointing.
Would you try another book from Mary Kay Andrews and/or Kathleen McInerney?
LOVE Mary Kay Andrews! But she is a SOUTHERN author, the narration was NOT and when she tried to be it was terrible. Mary Kay should know better than to have someone read her southern novels with such a terrible accent. Took away from the story.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Liked the supporting cast of characters.
What didn’t you like about Kathleen McInerney’s performance?
She was so wrong for this book!
Was Spring Fever worth the listening time?
It was just "ok"
Any additional comments?
please Mary Kay, have a real southerner read your books. (or a better actress). All your other books have been so much fun!!

A fun listen
This was fun listening, but the story was not without problems. There were bits that should have been edited out, because they went nowhere in the end. But overall, I enjoyed it very much. The characters were believable, as was the plot. It made me want to cry, did make me laugh, and I sympathised with the people who came to life. The setting was part of the story, so it was enjoyable as well.
I enjoyed the narration. Many books set in the South are read in a 100% Southern accent, so when a character isn't from there, it is jarring to hear that accent. Kathleen McInerney reserved the Southern accent for the characters' dialog, and eschewed it for the descriptions, so when the character with the mid-western accent was speaking, it didn't disturb. The characters are also given distinct voices, so it's relatively easy to know who is speaking.
As well as all that, there is a bonus interview with Mary Kay Andrews at the end that was informative. Sometimes it's nice to get those questions of "how do you start a story" and "how do you invent your characters" answered. Her answers are interesting and surprising in some ways.

The Truth will set you Free
None of the characters were all that wonderful. I think Pokey was my favorite because she didn't let family influence her to be anyone but herself. Everyone in the book just needed to communicate better because when something is Bothering you, It is ALWAYs on your mind so just speak it (Definitely THINK before you speak). I had to know what happened at the end of this book. I would recommend it to friends who are looking for a dramatic book.
