Summary

A gripping literary horror novel about the death of a haunted town

On winter solstice, the birds disappeared, and the mist arrived.

The inhabitants of Nebulah quickly learn not to venture out after dark. But it is hard to stay indoors: Cabin fever sets in, and the mist can be beguiling too.

Eventually only six remain. Like the rest of the townspeople, Pete has nowhere else to go. After he rescues a stranded psychic from a terrible fate, he’s given a warning: He will be dead by solstice unless he leaves town - soon.

Compelling story with great pacing

I do love a subtle horror and this book scratches that itch. In particular I like how the exposition is drop fed throughout, adding pieces to the puzzle right up to the end. The protagonist is also very well developed; flawed but unpretentious and likeable which is what I need from a main character.

I will knock one mark off just because I feel like the ending left me feeling a bit short changed, wanting some kind of explanation of what had happened and not getting it.

Very well written

Great story very well written kinda drags at time but you still want to continue to see what happens next. I would definitely like to hear more from this author.

Ghostly Goings On

This book is a really well written and well narrated ghost story, better than I thought it would be.

Not my usual but really enjoyed it

Enjoyed this up to a point.
There was a voice in my head that tutted through the whole book at the stupidity of people putting themselves in that situation.
I appreciate it’s fiction but it was a bit daft.
Having said that it was beautifully narrated and unputdownable

Well, that was different !

Unusual storyline but very exciting and compelling. The narration was really good and I loved listening to it.

soon

more a human drama than an outright horror story. The characters are well drawn but the story is familiar. If you like the author who provides the cover quote you will probably get something out of this

Confusing at times

Got confused more than once listening to this. A few times I felt like I'd maybe skipped a chapter or a glitch had meant I'd went back to the beginning. The story was a great when it stayed on track but too often veered off.

Not just another "horror" tale.

A pleasant surprise of a book.
Beautifully written and believable characters.
I recommend wholeheartedly.

Extremely Creepy

I'm a big horror fan and sometimes find it hard to really feel the scares in books now. Not this book, oh no. A supremely eerie feel is maintained throughout but there were parts that actually sent shivers up my spine!
I binged this whole book in just two sessions, I couldn't put it down. Love the ending.

The narrator was excellent too, and that makes all the difference in this genre.

Highly recommend you give this a listen, even if you feel you might have heard it all. You haven't heard this....

Heartbreaking and Gripping

The horror is minimal, more of a human drama but my God it ticks every box.
Unforgiving and relentless.
Written so well and with such detail it leaves you hooked despite its long chapters.
You really feel for every character.
Ignore the comment on the bad Scottish accent, that happens only once.
My only critique is that there is a lot of resubmission recordings where the audio quality drops and it’s noticeable and quite frequent but other than that, this story is that of true terror and tragedy; especially the last 3 chapters.
