Story
He was a tough enforcer for a New York gang. But when young Tom Shanaghy made one too many enemies, he skipped town on a fast-moving freight. He landed in a small Kansas town that had big dreams, no name, and the need for an honest lawman. Tom figured that a knuckle-and-skull man from Five Points would be perfect for the job. He didn't know that a high-stakes cattle drive was headed his way and that leading it was a vindictive rancher bent on settling an old score.

Wendy doesn't mean to kill Dina, the energy therapy practitioner who recruited her to an allergy study. She's not even sure how it happened. How could something as silly as hand waving and hypnotism turn Wendy's skin from empathic to lethal? Better yet, how can she change it back? Summary
An outlaw's legacy...
In a remote corner of Utah lies the secret outlaw kingdom of Ben Curry. For 15 years Curry has ruled supreme, as his men have pulled jobs from Canada to Mexico. But the king is getting old...he wants to turn his legacy over to someone younger, tougher.
Mike Bastian is Ben's adopted son, a young man who can handle a knife, a gun, his fists, but a man who's never broken the law. Now, as treachery explodes among Ben's riders, and two honest lawmen - Tyrel Sackett and Borden Chantry - begin to zero in on the gang, Mike must choose...between his loyalty to Ben and his yearning for a different life. Yet when the guns start echoing off the Vermilion Cliffs, the time for choosing is over - and the time for battle has begun.

Outstanding Production of a Powerful Story
Louis L'amour's stories are always the best. Listening to this story, furthermore, is not like listening to a story, it is like watching a movie, or even better, like actually being on the scene. The story starts by establishing deep personal foundations under the characters, and proceeds to build excitement and suspense to a peak. This program also includes a bonus hour (after 2+ hours of the story) about the making of the audio, and concludes with some personal time with the author himself speaking: the late Louis L'amour. If there is anything disappointing about this, it is that there are not more like it available, NOW.

Good dramatization but...
I did not like the Lord's name taken in vain. Louis L'Amour did not write like this! . Whoever produced this audiobook used words that did not need to be heard.
I still think this was a great dramatization though. I have many other dramatizations from Louis L'Amour that don't use this language . Great books don't need to use the Lord's name in vain! Just disappointed.

Not The Same as the Book
If this were its own story under its own title I probably would have less of a negative reaction, but it takes the name of the book and sorely under delivers. They over simplified the plot, made Mike sound like some helpless adolescent, and dumbed down Dru a good bit. They completely left out the trailing of Molina to Peach Meadow Canyon and the whole subplot with Borden Chantry and Tyrel Sackett.

Dramatization - Not a Fan
I am a huge fan of Louis L'Amour books. This is the first one of his books I've listened to that's dramatized. After listening to all the commentary I understand what they were trying to accomplish with it and I think they did a pretty good job. But as someone who has read all of these books multiple times I found the changes they made to the story to make it work in this format distracting and disappointing. I think this is a great choice for someone who hasn't read the book.
