Summary

Known to the K2 Special Services team as Romeo, ex-Navy SEAL Jake Buchanan may spend his downtime living up to his nickname, but there's one woman who sets his heart racing like no one else can: Maria Kincaid. Unfortunately, his boss - her brother - has made it crystal clear that she's off-limits. Jake doesn't do commitment, while Maria is the type of woman who deserves a promise of forever. Yet Maria finds herself drawn to Jake, the man who stares at her with a desire she wishes he'd act on.

Still haunted by her horrific childhood, Maria goes searching for the father she's never met - and stumbles into a nightmarish experience. With her life in grave danger, she reaches out to Jake, her brother's second-in-command. Jake figures he can help Maria without giving in to temptation. But some things are easier said than done.

Great Series

I liked this story a lot. I only have 1 complaint. The hero tries to drive his love away with some pretty harsh words. She forgave him too easily, imo. She should have made him grovel!!

meh

this is my 4th Sandra Owens book. Glad I read and enjoyed the other 3 first or I wouldn't have read them. I must be a prude because the constant sex got really old. this would've been a really short book otherwise.

Good story line

Wish they had a different male voice because Jake had such a gruff voice at times and then not so gruff. Was so sad about his friend, don’t want to give anything away. Have family in the military who have lost friends in battle and it sucks. The worst in fact for it never leaves you. Jake’s way of dealing with it was spot on and loved the fact that all the crew helped him through it. Especially Maria.

Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above

Was there so much sex or unrealistic sex that you rolled your eyes and/or skipped forward? Um...yes. O after O after O

The back story... The h, trying to find out who her father is, interrupts a sexual assault that was about to occur. Unfortunately the bad guy got her purse with her license so she called the H, The H works for K2 and agrees to help.

Romance or Gist: Strong attraction for years boils over. Unfortunately the H is an idiot.

The drama explosion... The H is an a$$ after a tough situation.
Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Ok
Was it OTT? Yes
Separation involved? Slight
Was it resolved properly or rushed? Ok

Final Notes... The author likes to create tension in scenes by going off on little tangents with every question asked so the story dragged a bit for me. I do enjoy her stories but the H in this one was pissed me off a few times. She would be better off moving on. The 'is he my father' storyline was interesting and I liked how it ended.

Mixed feelings

I enjoyed the story, but was frustrated with the narration of it. The narrator telling the story and Maria’s voice did not add to the book at all. He sounded too old and although he may have work well in other books, he did not fit in with this one. Her voice was horrible through most of it.

Enjoyable!

I love the characters in this book. They are strong and loyal and lovable. Each story focuses on one member of the K2 team. The story has mystery, good action scenes, and enjoyable character interactions. The narration is pretty good.

Someone Doesn't Like Herself

Since I enjoyed the first book in this series, I had high hopes for Someone Like Her. Sadly, law student Maria didn't like herself, which made it difficult to engage with her character.

Likewise, ex-SEAL Jake was a macho, selfish player without much respect for women or himself. While not actually violent toward Maria, his domineering actions were annoying and immature rather than romantic or sexy.

It was disappointing and boring that an intelligent young woman had so little self confidence and that Jake was more cavemen than hero. This story might be exciting to a teen but not interesting for mature readers/listeners.

Pet peeve: neither her SEAL brother or his friends taught Maria any self-defense or protection techniques, so she constantly needed to be saved like a child.

Predictable

Really didn't like narrators so don't know if thats what messed up the story or not. Hard to get past it.
