Such an eye opener

This book was an eye opener, I’d like to think that this behaviour doesn’t exist in the day and age, however it sadly does. Written well.

Has great bones.

Has great bones.

I enjoyed the premise of the story. It sounded great and like it could be deep, profound and healing but unfortunately fall a little short at places. I really liked the characters and I felt so much for Sol. He had such a hard life. He was broken and beaten but kept getting back up. I loved Seth's caring and protective nature. I was enraged by Sol's parents and 'church'. The foundation of this story was great and the narration was really well done but I wanted more. More depth, more healing and more progress with the relationships, more time for the story to develop. I look forward to seeing where the story goes with Ben's story and if we will see more of Sol's recovery as Ben's story progresses. I hope to see a satisfying conclusion to both bothers lives and story.

Thanks for reading!

A good-ish story.

I was given an Audible code for this book. This is my honest review.
Something about this just didn't quite hit it for me. Some of the big events got brushed over very quickly, when a lot more detail should of been given. We jumped days and weeks, with them being passed over with a sentence or two.
I just didn't quite engage with the characters, when I feel I should of.
The narration at time was tough to listen to. I don't know if it was the books structure or the narrators style (I have not heard him before) but at times I felt myself wish for a full stop or comma in his reading, just so a pause for breath could be heard. I also found he read with a monotonous voice at times with very little depth or expression.

love the story

I usually read a chapter and listen to a chapter of a book because of my hearing difficulties. Unusually, with this one, I read more than I listened. Although Matt Standley narrates clearly, I felt he has little expression and rushes sentences.

That said, I loved the story of Sol and Seth. It is well plotted and gripped me from start to finish. Don't expect an angst-free ride with this one. It wrenches the heart and while I'd like to believe this couldn't happen in real life, I am certain it does.

Sol and Seth get a very hard won HEA and it is more satisfying because of this. Sol's twin brother, Ben, changes from being rather selfish to a more well-rounded person as the book progresses and I am looking forward to reading his book next.

OMG poor Sol

Sol was an 18 yr old who is kidnapped by his parents and locked in his room which was decorated as when he was a child. He manages to escape and good Samaritan Seth saves him and they form a relationship and a friendship with Martha, until his parents find him and have both Martha and Sol. They release Martha but beat Sol to an inch of death. He is finally found and back in Seth's loving arms. His parents should be shot. Narrating was good

Matt didn't do it for me

What did you like best about Sol's Solstice? What did you like least?

I enjoyed the story but the narrator really wasn't expressive enough for me.

What three words best describe Matt Standley’s voice?

Not expressive enough

*received in exchange for an honest review*

I really enjoyed the story of Sol and Seth. It was greatly written by Leona Windwalker and I have added the following book to my TBR pile. I did, however, find myself reading the book on my kindle because I found myself not listening to Standley’s narration and I kept missing bits. It was really monotonous. And as much as I tried to prevent it from taking away from what was a great, drama filled story, it really did.

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening, but not more then twice a year.
it's like a B

Heartbreaking...

Sol and his twin brothers went into the system due to their parents negligence. Now they are paying the price of having crazy parents but sol took the worst part. He found solace in Seth, a kind hearted stranger who takes him in. Religion fanaticism should really be under mental illnesses. Sol had to suffer his parents and church leaders criminal antics to take the gay out of him. Good thing he had someone who loved him and save Sol from madness. A roller coaster is this one. I cried while listening and wanted to punch some characters. Good listen.
