About this listen

A strange houseA ghost from the past

As soon as she moves into Hillside, Gwenda knows there’s something strange about this house.

A sealed room. A hidden door. The apparition of a young woman being strangled.

But strangest of all – this all seems quite familiar.

As her friend Jane Marple investigates, the answer seems to lie in a crime committed nearly twenty years ago.

The killer may have gotten away with murder. But Miss Marple is never far behind.

Never underestimate Miss Marple

‘Reading a perfectly plotted Agatha Christie is like crunching into a perfect apple: that pure, crisp, absolute satisfaction.’

A better than normal plot line I truly enjoyed. Keped me hooked. Perfect summer Garden listening.

Christy at her finest

What makes this so satisfying is Stephanie Cole's reading. There is the aura of County (UK listeners will understand) about her similar to Joan Hickson in the old BBC dramatisations. You need that, just as Philip Marlowe needs snarky Californian, or Miss Marple doesn't work.

Just the thing for a murky afternoon.

So good to hear the actual story instead of watching several TV dramas which do not stick quite so closely to the plot. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

Great!

Such beautiful writing, so beautifully read. Love how classic and British Agatha Christie’s works feel and the regional accents in Stephanie Cole’s narration brought the characters to life. I didn’t guess “whodunnit” at all!

Charming and perfectly sinister

Overall another great Marple mystery narrated beautifully by Stephanie Cole. As usual Agatha Christine's array of complex characters combine to create a rich reader experience or in this case listener! Enjoy 📖

This is my favourite Agatha Christie of all.time, so.couldn't have listened if the reading wasn't good. Stephanie Cole lived up to.expectation... Some of the West Country accents were slightly dubious, but not enough to put me off!

Great reading of a great story

A traditional, sweet listen, despite being a crime novel. The narration by Stephanie Cole was faultless, as always.

Very enjoyable.
