Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel. Read by William Hope, Christopher Ragland, Andy Secombe, Charlie Anson, Eric Meyers, Laurel Lefkow, Liza Ross, William Hope, Adna Sablyich and Katharine Mangold.

Deadwood, USA. A girl sneaks out just before dark to ride her new bike. Suddenly the ground disappears beneath her. Waking up at the bottom of a deep pit, she sees an emergency rescue team above her. The people looking down see something far stranger....

We always look forward. We never look back.

That girl grows up to be Dr. Rose Franklin, a brilliant scientist and the leading world expert on what she discovered. An enormous, ornate hand made of an exceptionally rare metal which predates all human civilisation on the continent.

But this thing...it's different. It challenges us. It rewrites history.

An object whose origins and purpose are perhaps the greatest mystery humanity has ever faced. Solving the secret of where it came from - and how many more parts may be out there - could change life as we know it.

It dares us to question what we know about ourselves.

But what if we were meant to find it? And what happens when this vast, global puzzle is complete?

About everything.

Editor reviews

"Reminiscent of The Martian and World War Z, this is a luminous conspiracy yarn that shoots for (and lands among) the stars." (Pierce Brown, author of Red Rising)

Brilliant.

One of the few books I've listened to with multiple narrators. They enhanced the whole story (which is already great), with their performances. The book itself has a fairly standard plot line, but the way it is put together is very clever. Looking forward to the sequel.

ermmmmmmm

struggled to finish this i really did it never gets going and just when you think it might do it again just rambles on, the idea and story of the book is quite good its just poorly executed! if you have got a long time to kill and a free credit give it a go but deception point by dan brown is far far better written and executed

A long episode of X-Files

For those who are Sci-fi fans, this is a bit of a dream. It's intelligent, compiled completely through a series of 'classified' interviews with a mysterious authoritative person with no name. While the concept is a bit unoriginal and slightly lame, it's written in a militaristic tone giving a sense of realism. There is a big twist at the end that sets up the premise for the next book. Interesting - but not much else.

Brilliant

I absolutely loved this audio book, I got through it in 3 days.
I really enjoyed the direction of the story. The narrators were good too, the humour in the book really came through with the characters

Unique

At first Sleeping Giants reminded me of Micheal Crichton. The format of the book made the audiobook version sound more like a play, which worked really well. I did really enjoy this very different book. I wasn't quite sure what to expect the story to be, but again it was sufficiently different to keep me entertained.
The voice of the geneticist was very annoying but the rest were well done despite how strange it was that it is entirely dialogue but not a script.

OK...

A change to my normal genre...... 15 words is a bit too much for a review of this book from me as it was just ok & passed the time.

Oddly satisfying

This is an alien sci fi novel with a difference. Think Arthur C Clarke and Twilight Zone with a dash of Stephen King and The day the earth stood still all mixed together with a mysterious string puller whose motives have yet to be revealed. I enjoyed the narration, with all the voice actors giving great performances and adding weight to the plot. Looking forward to listening to part two.

Brilliant from start to finish!

great story, very well narrated, except for a poor stuttering performance of one character. it's only a small part and doesn't ruin the overall performance. looking forward to listening to the next one, I hope it's as good as the first.
