Summary

An original, upper-middle-grade series starring the break-out character from the Black Panther comics and films: T'Challa's younger sister, Shuri!

Crafted by New York Times best-selling author Nic Stone. Shuri is a skilled martial artist, a genius, and a master of science and technology. But, she's also a teenager. And a princess. This middle-grade series follows Shuri as she sets out on a quest to save her homeland of Wakanda.

For centuries, the Chieftain of Wakana (the Black Panther) has gained his powers through the juices of the Heart Shaped Herb. Indeed, even Shuri herself has gained powers from this mythical herb, which grows only in Wakanda. Much like Vibranium, the Heart Shaped Herb is essential to the survival and prosperity of Wakanda. But something is wrong. The plants are no longer growing. No matter what the people of Wakanda do, they can't create new herbs. And their supply is running short. It's up to Shuri to travel from Wakanda in order to discover what is killing the Herb, and how she can save it, in this all-new, original series.

Who runs the world? Girls!

Without question, this is one of the BEST Black Panther stories I have EVER read. Period. Full stop. There is a wonderful synergy between Nic's words and Anika's articulation. Together, they do a first rate job of being Shuri's voice to life (like Shonda Rhimes and Kerry Washington with Olivia Pope). Nic does an excellent job of taking a various elements from The Black Panther/Marvel Universe and weaving them into a story with Shuri at the center.

There several exciting cameos (No spoliers. Buy the book) and nuanced personality and political conflicts Shuri has to deal with, even as she is working to save the day. Wakanda is no utopia, and some of their neighbors (who know they exist) take exception to their policies and position in terms of how they deal with the rest of the world. These are the kind of challenges worthy of someone who will someday be...Queen.

A wonderful first book. I look forward to the rest of the series. Well done, ladies. Wakanda Forever!!!

Anika Noni Rose + Nic Stone = Epic Combo

This audiobook is AMAZING!!! Learning more about Shuri in this novel is precisely what I needed as I prepare for Wakanda Forever. It was a wonderful story connecting the reader to the comic books’ story lines. Well done all around!!
