About this listen

The upstart firm Foundryside is struggling to make it. Orso Igancio and his star employee, former thief Sancia Grado, are accomplishing brilliant things with scriving, the magical art of encoding sentience into everyday objects, but it's not enough. The massive merchant houses of Tevanne won't tolerate competition, and they're willing to do anything to crush Foundryside.

But even the merchant houses of Tevanne might have met their match. An immensely powerful and deadly entity has been resurrected in the shadows of Tevanne, one that's not interested in wealth or trade routes: a hierophant, one of the ancient practitioners of scriving. And he has a great fascination for Foundryside and its employees - especially Sancia.

Now Sancia and the rest of Foundryside must race to combat this new menace, which means understanding the origins of scriving itself - before the hierophant burns Tevanne to the ground.

Better than the first

What a sequel. The ending has me shook. Better than the first, which I did think could be possible. Tara Sands is just an incredible narrator.

Absorbing

I decided to give this a go, even though it had such disappointing reviews. This is unusual for me, but having read the first in the series, I decided to try this. so very happy that I did. Wonderful and now I'm waiting with anticipation for the final book in the trilogy

Very much a middle book in a series

After a disappointing start to this series, the author is firing all cylinders with book 2. RJB writes great action scenes that are peppered throughout the book. However because it’s book 2 in the series the plot is frustrating at times as time and time again Sancia pisses away her advantage to allow the main villain to escape and kill more people. If this had been a paper book there are times I would have thrown it at the wall. This means book 2 doesn’t feel like a self contained story but just one big setup for book 3.

Roll on book 3.

Narration was well done.

Lost it’s way

I really enjoyed the first book but struggled to finish this one. I just couldn’t get connected with the characters emotionally

A disappointment

I loved the first book, this book was so hard to finish I lost interest in the characters and the plot was so drawn out for very little to happen.

The first book had twists this one was just boring.

The narrator did well.
