Summary
Richard Sharpe, asked to help an old friend, meets, at last, the greatest enemy.
Five years after the Battle of Waterloo, Sharpe's peaceful retirement in Normandy is shattered. An old friend, Don Blas Vivar, is missing in Chile, reported dead at rebel hands--a report his wife refuses to believe. She appeals to Sharpe to find out the truth.
Sharpe, along with Patrick Harper, finds himself bound for Chile via St. Helena, where they have a fateful meeting with the fallen emperor Napoleon. Convinced they are on their way to collect a corpse, neither man can imagine the dangers that await them in Chile.…

something a bit different
I really enjoyed this addition toothed Sharpe series. The notable Scottish Admiral is another character based upon a real world personality of the time.

Still amazed!!
My first encounter with Sharpe's Devil was a paperback. I don't know why, but I was amazed how much I enjoyed it. Not because I doubted the quality of the writer or writing. But at that point, I had not read a Sharpe not based during the Napoleonic wars and was sceptical about a story set 5 years after Waterloo.
Thank goodness I did not let my scepticism stop me. The story is amazing and also leaves you pondering the "what ifs?" Especially around, had Napoleon not died?
Another reason for me to be grateful to Sharpe's Devil is that.......Recognising that I'd read and enjoyed this book, led me to finally giving the 5 books before Sharpe's Rifles the fair chance they deserved. Although in my defence, I knew the 5 "prequels" did not feature Harper. Although he did make a cameo in Sharpe's Prey.

Wonderful story and finale to the Sharpe Series.
Loved the story. Great narration. And Rupert Farley read the whole series. Bernard Cornwall please write a finish to Richard Sharpe's life. What happened to him?

Amazing Series
Really enjoy Sharpes adventures ,The only book in the series I didn't really enjoy was Sharpes revenge ,The complete personality change in one of the characters didn't make any sense to me and slightly ruined the book for me other than that whole series was amazing and brilliantly narrated.

What clever story & a fitting end to Sharpe
Brilliant & clever to again entwine real history with the story of Sharpe. Reading all the books in the right order was a great pleasure & I am looking forward to listen to more of the Bernard Cornwell books. Again the narrator Rupert Farley made the characters come to life with his understanding of the personalities & the clever accents. Fabulous last story & a fitting end for Sharpe, but I will miss him & Harper.

Sadly the last one available
well this is the first negative I've needed to write about the Sharpe novels. negative because it's the last one. I've loved these so much that I might just go back to the beginning and start again. highly recommended
