About this listen

Did Equinox Magic Lead to Murder?

Casey Adams juggles the responsibilities of a stressful life, but after participating in a secret campus ceremony, these concerns seem minor, compared to a growing dread that somehow she and her friends may have unleashed something sinister. Assailed by bloody visions of death, Casey fears she's going as insane as her mother.

When a horrible murder comes to peaceful Ol' Nor'eastern College, Casey and her friends must accept the changes in their lives and stop the bloodshed. Fans of magical realism will enjoy this debut young adult contemporary exploration of the paranormal, responsibility to family, friends, community, and self-acceptance.

This story is one of real darkness and light. On the one hand we have a story of family disfunction, uncertainty, fear and horror but on the other a story of family bond, friendship, new love, and hope. Kerry E B Black manages to weave these polar opposites into a beautifully written story full of wonderfully rich characters, exciting mystery and frightening events. I loved it.

Megan L Hysell read the book well and gave life to the characters. My only complaint would be that sometimes she didn't make it clear enough in her voice between Casey's spoken and thought words, which added a little confusion. However, it didn't detract from the great story.
