Awful narration ruins this audio book
The narration is absolutely awful, quite simply because the narrator has done no research on how to pronounce even the most simple of Scottish names or places. I doubt he's ever been to Scotland. Shockingly poor, I will sadly be returning the book because of this. I am around quarter way through and the content is great, so I may buy the paper or kindle version.

Dunfirmline, Dumfries , Aran , and many more said totally wrong - why not get a Scot to read it or at least someone who can speak English !!

How to mispronounce every Scottish location
The narrator obviously has never visited Scotland or met anyone from Scotland… which is a shame as it’s a fascinating story.

The venerable Beady?!! No, no, no!!
Like other reviewers, my mounting irritation at the narrator's mispronunciation of commonly used words and place-names is making my blood boil and completely spoiling the book. Thank god I didn't have to pay for this. If I don't know how to pronounce a word, I find out. Ignorance is excusable but the arrogance of someone who just makes up their own pronunciations, so many times, WHEN THEY ARE BEING PAID is unforgivable.

Ruined by narration
I can forgive the inaccuracies, but mispronouncing nearly *every* place name? Unforgivable and unlistenable.

Horrendous narration!
It was very irritating to listen to this horrendous narration in which zero attempt seems to have been made to pronounce a single Scottish word or name, of either place or person, remotely accurately. Why a native Scottish narrator wasn't used is an inexplicable mystery. It's a shame, really, as the content of the book is actually very good in spite of being a whistle-stop tour of Scottish history, rather than anything in-depth, but that is as expected for a book designed to offer the reader a brief overview.

Terrible pronunciation
The audiobook content is ok, and even much of the narration is fine, but the constant mispronunciation of people, places, and pretty much everything else really lets the audiobook down.
It's clear that there has been absolutely no effort made in this regard, and words the narrator hasn't seen before are just guessed at arbitrarily. Many, many of these are not obscure words and would have been incredibly easy to check

Good book, terrible narrator
The narration in the audible version is very soporific and I gave up listening to it. Ended up buying the kindle version and actually quite enjoyed reading it. If you want an introduction to Scottish history buy the book avoid this audible version.

This should’ve been read by a Scot. The pronunciations are awful
Would it have been so hard to get a Scottish person to read this book? I can barely concentrate cause my brain is correcting every second word. I would give the performance no stars if I could. The information is good, the reading of it is terrible.

Not good enough
I rarely write reviews, but I can’t help myself with this one. This actor has really not done the job here. He’s not looked into one correct pronunciation and really, that’s lazy work. It’s almost done deliberately! If you read a place or word you don’t recognise or feel sure you know how to say, look it up!!!! Do the work!! Also, less importantly, but a bit puzzling- why not get a Scottish actor to read? At least we might assume they’d have an inkling of what country they were talking about!
