About this listen
Like The Last Temptation of Christ, Saint Francis is a fictionalized biography of a widely venerated Christian figure: Francis of Assisi, whose renunciation of his young man’s life of leisure and founding of a religious order dedicated to living in poverty and sharing the Gospels with all living things profoundly influence the ways in which Christians the world over worship and give service to their god even today.
Recounted in Nikos Kazantzakis’ striking prose through the eyes of the saint’s brother, Leo, the life of Saint Francis shines in this audiobook as a heroic example of inspirational leadership and boundless love for God and all his creatures.

Back to Assisi
Captivated by this novel with so many of the events of St Francis’ life included in it. Page after page took me back to Assisi, which I visited 5 yrs ago. Time to go back to see Francis

A Fantastic Novel Beautifully Presented
Saint Francis is a novel that shares many similarities with The Last Temptation of Christ. They both are about Kazantzakis' favourite themes of man's search for God and the power of faith. And, like TLToC, the prose is absolutely wonderful, almost like poetry.
To describe Joshua Saxon's work on this as merely narration does him a massive disservice. It is a performance in every aspect. You can feel his understanding of the material throughout. You believe every word. It is always a pleasure to listen to an audiobook performed by someone so on top of their game.
A fantastic novel beautifully presented.
Highly recommended.

Having a hard time with narration
I like a lot about this book and was really interested to go on a journey into St. Francis's life. The narration is at times very good, other reviewers spoke highly of that and it was part of the reason I bought it. But I just can't get used to the absurdly low and gruff voice for Francis himself, it feels so untrue to me, he gives him a voice like a grumpy old man when he is still young at the beginning. No tenderness in the voice of Francis, I find it spoils it rather for me which is a shame. I don't think I'll finish it, I might have to buy the paperback
