About this listen

Sahih Al Bukhari is a collection of sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), also known as the sunnah. The reports of the Prophet's sayings and deeds are called ahadith.

Bukhari lived a couple of centuries after the Prophet's death and worked extremely hard to collect his ahadith. Each report in his collection was checked for compatibility with the Qur'an, and the veracity of the chain of reporters had to be painstakingly established.

Bukhari's collection is recognized by the overwhelming majority of the Muslim world to be one of the most authentic collections of the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH).

Imam Al Bukhari (full name Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin al-Mughira al-Ja'fai) was born in 194 AH in Bukhara, Uzbekistan and died in 256 AH.

His collection of hadith is considered second to none. He spent 16 years compiling it and ended up with 2,602 hadith (9,082 with repetition). His criteria for acceptance into the collection were amongst the most stringent of all the scholars of ahadith.

Sahih Al Bukhari is one of the Kutub al-Sittah (six major hadith collections) of Sunni Islam, compiled by a Muslim scholar Muhammad al-Bukhari. It was completed around 846 CE/232 AH. Sunni Muslims view this as one of the two most trusted collections of hadith along with Sahih Muslim. The Arabic word sahih translates as authentic or correct. Sahih al-Bukhari together with Sahih Muslim is known as Sahihayn.

Sahih Al Bukhari contains around 2,600 ahadith without repetitions and 7,563 ahadith with repetitions. It is an important book in Islamic literature. It is the first book to only include the ahadith without interpretations of the companions (ra) and their successors. Al-Bukhari is considered to be the most authentic source of Hadith.

Great work to bring the Sahih Bukhari to Audible

This is a great initiative to bring the Sahih Al Bukhari to Audible and I hope the author will bring Sahih Muslim too once the 9 volumes are completed and ready for purchase. However I do agree with the other reviewer that the narration needs a bit more attention and better quality sound. However still rate it 4 stars as still a very valuable addition to any library.

Excellent opportunity to learn the Hadiths

First and the best thing is that this audio book gave me the opportunity to read (listen) to Sahih Al Bukhari, something I had wanted to do but wasn't able to for many years. The book is read clearly, at the right speed, without mistakes or errors, and gives clear references throughout. Big thanks to everyone who produced it.

It’s Bukhari on Audible!

It seems to me that the quest to have this series finished has gone above the quest for a good narration. She stumbles on her words and the pauses are sometimes wrong. It’s hard to tell when she’s quoting and the difference between parenthesis, commas and full stops. Not always, but I sometimes have to stop, rewind, then listen to the words again. I can’t rely on the rhythmic flow of the reading. It’s not robotic, it’s just a first reading. For something with the gravitas of Bukhari, you would expect her to have got some coaching or have practiced… or the publishers just get a proper voice actor with knowledge of the hadith (a hard ask - this is a BIG project and she’s nowhere near finished). On a hadith about women for example, she stops at the word ‘women’ then pauses and carries on ‘…who are displeased with their husbands’. The length of the pause is clearly ‘think time’ but instead of stopping and re-recording she just ploughs on. And without listening to all of it, she almost changed the meaning of the hadith! I don’t know what the story behind this book is and I feel I need to know. It seems to me, she’s recorded it for a sick relative or something. She sometimes sounds tired, sometimes angry but mostly it’s a good reading. The intention was not to produce a professionally recorded audiobook. The sound quality is also testament to this. So although this audiobook is a DIY bodge job, it’s okay. Her reading is okay when it’s okay and it’s a noble effort and I give 5 stars for getting it out there on Audible for us busy folk who learn best from listening (there is the start of another one on Audible it’s one of those terrible echoey numbers). May Allah reward her and whoever worked alongside her!

Deeply unprofessional narration

I applaud the narrator of this book for making volume 1 of one of the most influential hadith collections available in audio form. If you are interested in Islam this is the logical next step after the Qur’an as it gives insight into the person of Muhammad and the lived reality of Islam, whereas the Qur’an is more concerned with high theology.

However, this is The most unprofessional narration I have ever heard. She often stumbles on a sentence, stops and repeats the sentence again. The audio quality is not good and probably comes from an inferior microphone. At one point you can hear her phone going off on vibrate. These are features that would not be present in a professional narration and really should’ve been edited out. If she is to do the next volume she should edit out mistakes and get professional audio equipment.
