About this listen

**NINE LIVES PAPERBACK IS AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW**

From a master of suspense...

Eight classic murders.
A single crime obsessive.
Countless thrilling twists.

A series of unsolved murders with one thing in common: each of the deaths bears an eerie
resemblance to the crimes depicted in classic mystery novels.

The deaths lead FBI Agent Gwen Mulvey to mystery bookshop Old Devils. Owner Malcolm Kershaw had once posted online an article titled 'My Eight Favourite Murders,' and there seems to be a deadly link between the deaths and his list - which includes Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders, Patricia Highsmith's Strangers on a Train and Donna Tartt's The Secret History.

Can the killer be stopped before all eight of these perfect murders have been re-enacted?

Although not very likable, the main character certainly draws you into their story. It was mysteries within mysteries, in more ways than one. I don't think anyone could predict everything that happens in this story, even if you have suspicions.

I enjoyed the references to other literature, and it certainly added to my TBR. The mirroring of certain aspects of other books was clever too.

The narrator does a good job, particularly with distinguishing characters.

Overall, a chilling mystery somewhat lacking in redemption.

What a mystery

Other reviewers mention the spoilers of the book plots within the book which is certainly true.

However as I had read all the books referred to (or at least the ones I ever intend to) this wasn’t an issue.

Yes the book did get a little surreal at times but I loved the characters and the backdrop of the book store and a list of perfect murders with a clever twist at the end.

I also thought the narrator did a great job and I enjoyed his style. Overall this was certainly a book that held my interest.

Enjoyable

I liked the idea of the plot and much of the text was well written, but the “clever” plot just didn’t do it for me, less of a twist and more of a sticky slide. Still passed the time adequately for 1.99.

Not as clever as it thinks it is

This is a clever if confusing story where the murders recreate murders from fiction. If you haven't read those books, you won't need to because the author gives away the murderer in each one! I had to stop listening and listen to the Red House first (terrible Audible version by the way) so as not to have the story spoilt in this book.

Beware of the spoilers!!

I stumbled on this book and found I couldn't put it down after I'd started it. I enjoyed the references to classic crime novels from the Golden Age and more recent works and it helps if you've read them as there are as the author warns, a few spoilers in here.
I liked that the story got darker as it went along and the characters becMe more three dimensional too. overall an enjoyable read

A page-turner story which drew me in

This was a very different kind of read for me and I enjoyed the link to real books I’d read and may now read again. I will probably set about finding the others and read them for the fist time. The narrator gives a superbly natural and believable performance and brings the author’s voice alive.

Almost perfect

A very weird and surprising book, the story line was very interesting and a little confusing at times so concentration is needed. Although this book I enjoyed very much give it a go and see what you think.

A very weird and surprising book!

Not sure if I actually enjoyed this book! It took me until half way through before realising what the ending would be. So that was good! It was a deal of the day for £1.99, so it was worth it, but wouldn’t have been happy to have used a credit for it!!

So if you get it cheaply like I did it’s worth listening too, whitest doing something else!

Ok but not a thrilling book

If you are like me and find it hard to concentrate when reading, audio books are amazing. I finished this inside 2 days alongside working from home. I could picture all the scenes in my head. My mind wandered towards the end, but my problem - not the storyline, so I will probably listen to the last hour a second time to make sure I didn't miss anything. I loved the plot twists - I almost wish it was a film!

Listen on 1.5 speed.

I purchased on impulse with it being on a daily deal, and was glad I did, its a clever book well thought out and the narration is perfect (Most Important) Its a book you could listen to again and still enjoy. You do get clues all the way through the book but you don't really pick up on at the time. I would Recommend.

Excellent -Brilliant
