_______________

'I enjoyed it tremendously ... The next time I go to Paris I will be looking up at the rooftops' – Jacqueline Wilson

Everyone tells Sophie that she was orphaned in a shipwreck – found floating in a cello case on the English Channel on her first birthday. But Sophie is convinced her mother also survived.

When the Welfare Agency threatens to separate her from her guardian and send her to an orphanage, Sophie takes matters into her own hands, starting with the only clue she has – the address of a cello-maker in Paris. On the run from the authorities, Sophie finds Matteo and his network of rooftoppers – urchins who walk tightropes and live in the sky. In a race across the rooftops of Paris, will they be able to find her mother before it's too late?

Hopeful, inspiring and thrilling in equal measure, this is a classic adventure story about pursuing your dreams and never ignoring a possible.

'A writer with an utterly distinctive voice and a wild imagination' – Philip Pullman

Could not stop listening to it

I like how it teaches children to tell them that life’s not fair and we all don’t have the same treatments because she is asking like ‘when do you eat?’ and he says ‘about every 2 days’ and it’s something like that.
It’s a really interesting book and I just couldn’t stop listening to it

Gorgeous poetic descriptions and loving relationship of adopted parent and child

Simply gorgeous. I wish I had read/listened sooner. I could think of several children I have taught who would have loved this book. The use of language is wonderful. The characters fleshed out well. Tamsin Grieg reads this beautifully.

Kept the kids gripped throughout

The narrator used a range of accents for the characters and was effective. The story has a good pace with suspense and mystery which draws in the audience. We listen to audio books in the car and the children didn't want to arrive because they enjoyed the story so much.
We came to this story via The Explorers which is still my favourite.

Enchanting

An unusual and enchanting story, beautifully narrated by Tamsin Grieg. One of those books I’ll listen to over and over again. I’m in my 70’s.
