Summary
The fourth novel in the Shardlake series. Spring, 1543. King Henry VIII is wooing Lady Catherine Parr, whom he wants for his sixth wife. Archbishop Cranmer and the embattled Protestant faction at court are watching keenly, for Lady Catherine is known to have reformist sympathies. Matthew Shardlake, meanwhile, is working on the case of a teenage boy who has been placed in the Bedlam insane asylum, before his terrifying religious mania leads to him being burned as a heretic.
When an old friend is horrifically murdered Shardlake vows to bring the killer to justice. His search leads him to Cranmer and Catherine Parr - and to the dark prophecies of the Book of Revelation.
As London's Bishop Bonner prepares a purge of Protestants Shardlake, together with his assistant, Jack Barak, and his friend, Guy Malton, investigate a series of horrific murders which are already bringing frenzied talk of witchcraft and demonic possession - for what else would the Tudor mind make of a serial killer . . .?

Excellent story as always.
Matthew Shardlake grows more interesting with every book
This story keeps the reader intrigued to the end with a plot that twists and turns. A host of fascinating characters throughout the plot.

Loved every minute of it!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would certainly recomment this audiobook. It is read with flair and enthusiasm, yet at a very agreeable pace.
What other book might you compare Revelation to, and why?
This series of books featuring the Tudor lawyer Shardlake are very convincing. The research has obviously been very meticulous, and the subsequent story telling is great - makes you feel you can feel and smell London at that time. You travel along with Shardlake and see the world throug his eyes.
What does Steven Crossley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Because of his reading the words out loud, and the care he takes to really bring those words across you pay heed to every nuance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Well, 21 hours is a bit long for one sitting! But yes, I devoted whole evenings just listening.

Paints a really good picture of a historical time.
Im very bad at remembering history so books like this i find brilliant because they actually paint a picture of the time. If you told me aabout the reformation and all of that a hundred times i still wouldnt grasp it but after reading a few of this series i can imagine the whole scenario...the streets the little details of how people dressed and ate and how things are structured...like the courts the laywers the sherrifs etc how they all work day to day. I just find it fascinating. So i think whether youre good at history or not these books really add a lot to getting your head around what happened. I absolutely love these times ...this particular story was a bit confusing at times because of the tangents but the charecters are so likeable. You really care about them by the end and the stories of the people involved in the mystery to me are more interesting than the plot itself. It just feels like s scaffold upon which the charecters and landscape are painted. So it dodnt bother me that i was a bit confused at times by the tangents. (Falling asleep and missing bits didnt help).

Shardlake at his best
I love the Shardlake books. Such an immersive sense of history and danger mixed with humour, intelligence and highlighting of injustice. Stephen Crossley is the perfect narrator. He becomes Shardlake for the reader allowing you to lose yourself in the story and mystery.

Continuing intrigue within the political landscape of Tudor England which is richly brought to life by a superb narrator.

Another amazing rich and wonderful tale!
The reader is transported back to medieval England with such intricate descriptive detail you could almost yourself living amongst the people. Incredible novel and therefore 5 stars!

Brilliant story telling
This series of books is just incredible if you love historical fiction based on historical events and people . The stories are so well written and characters so attractive that i can’t wait to go to bed at night and for car journeys :)) Can’t wait to start the next one :)

Another thoroughly riveting audible book
What did you like most about Revelation?
I love the Shardlake series very interesting lots of twists and turns in the story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Revelation?
Thinking for one terrible moment that Mathew may not make it out alive this time.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Towards the end of the book wondering who the killer was.
