About this listen

Reunions are for reconnecting with old friends…and sometimes burying a few. For Dwayne Morrow, this is where it all begins.

An invitation to his high school reunion prompts Dwayne Morrow to return to his small-town roots to reconnect with friends he hasn’t seen in fifteen years. Before the festivities can even begin, his best friend is found murdered in his car, and the local police show little interest in pursuing the case.

A mother’s plea pulls Dwayne into a tangled web of dangerous secrets and shady characters. Old friends and new acquaintances ensure that Dwayne’s life will never be the same again.

Reunion is the first novel in the Dwayne Morrow Mystery series.

Just finished listening to Darin Millers audiobook Reunion.

Wow, it was awesome! I have always wanted to read Darin's books, having heard many good things. With his first book coming out on Audiobook, it was a great time to give it a whirl!

Now, being from the UK, I find it hard to read books set in the states and imagine the characters with authentic voices. The narrator here does a truly excellent job, bringing it to life. I really felt as though I had landed in the story as a result and it almost played out cinematically in my head. That's unusual for me!

At times I had something like the Reacher books/TV series in my mind, a similar vibe in some ways. Dwayne Morrow is though an ordinary guy who just ends up thrown into the role of amateur detective. He is so out of his depth at times it was almost comical, but he muddles through. Some of his choices are just ridiculous, but not unbelievably so, just that you almost end up screaming at him to not be such an idiot in certain circumstances! Really well written!

This is the easiest of five stars for me, helped in no small part by the excellent narrator, who is near perfect. My only slight criticism was that some of his female voices were perhaps a little overdone, but it didn't detract to any great degree. In terms of the writing and the story, I am not quite sure what it was but some of the turn of phrasing was a little odd to my ear, but that's perhaps being a Brit and not knowing all the local lingo.

I am really looking forward to listening to the other books in the series, and I can imagine the writing will go from strength to strength.

An excellent story brought to life!
