Summary

Many years ago, a group of travelers took a doomed trip through Hell, Texas. Not long after their fateful journey, the town was discovered by Texas DPS Trooper Garrett Parker. Garrett was promoted to Texas Ranger as a result of his heroics. Over a decade has passed since that fateful day. Yet something terrible is happening again.

Motorists are vanishing without a trace and now children are disappearing from El Paso in record numbers. Garrett is sent back to the area to investigate. There is no way a town like Hell, Texas, could still be functioning, but he can't help the impending feeling of dread as he Returns to Hell Texas.

Wild, crazy and chilling.

This book is wild and twisted, in the best kind of way, kind of like something Rob Zombie would think up but not make a movie about because there is not quite enough blood and maiming. Wild characters and plotlines keep this story flowing, and David Quimby does a good job bringing the characters to life.

Not for the weak stomach. Extreme horror

This is EXTREME horror. I squirmed and shuddered I cringed and I'm pretty sure I threw up a bit in my own
Mouth as I listened And imaged some of the scenes. Absolutely horrifying and terrifying in its gritty disgustingness. Extreme characters extreme scenes. If you can stand it it's great. It is what it advertises to be. If you can't take it for that don't pick it up. If you can it will shake you to the core. Don't Ignore The Warning: It's EXTREME

This is a story meant to push your buttons, especially your senseless violence button.

If you enjoy watching slasher movies and you root for the slasher to win - this is for you. If you think David Cronenberg movies or Chuck Palahniuk stories are too tame - this is for you.

On the other hand if you drive the carpool to a religious day camp please pick something else to entertain the kids.

Just Avoid the Whole State of Texas

Whenever someone gives the warning of extreme horror I find that as a challenge. I have listened to a lot of extreme horror and pretty much most of it becomes centered around how much sexual and physical torture can I put someone through. The one thing I think they fail to really capture is the plot sounding those actions and a solid description that has the words describing the action that captures the moment in a way that even while listening to the book, you have to close your eyes and wince. Fortunately, I didn’t think this book glossed over either of those and provided a truly extreme horror story.

This didn’t stray too far from your typical plot that you would have for your extreme horror story, but I found myself drawn into the town trying to understand their underlying motive. Felt like a town run by and populated by the Sawyer family. I unfortunately skipped book 1 in the series so I will have to go back to understand Texas Ranger Garrett’s role a bit better, but it played out well as a standalone horror novel. Can’t say I knew who to root for throughout the story, ultimately it was Garrett, but sometimes you end up rooting for the townspeople and sometimes their victims, this one was gruesome enough I was on the side of justice.

David Quimby did a great job with the narration. His natural voice was quite calm and soothing despite the nature of what he was reading. Really tricks the brain while listening to such a mismatched narrator for this story and I absolutely loved it.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Horrific and Twisted

I am a little on the fence about this one. I don't usually shy away from blood and gore, but this book had me squeamish and wanting to fast-forward through some parts. I hadn't read or listened to the first book, Hell Texas, so I wasn't aware of what I was getting into. I have to agree with another reviewer who said that there was no payoff in the end. I kept expecting at least one of the "good guys" to make these people pay; for good to trump evil in the end, but that didn't happen. Without a redemption in the end, I feel like I was just bombarded with gratuitous sexual and violent scenes. I know this is strictly a matter of taste, so I still gave the book 3 stars because the writer clearly is talented at this genre (even if he has a sick and twisted imagination...lol). The narrator was great...no complaints there. His voice was perfect for the book and his character voices were nice. Nothing too over-the-top or unbelievable to draw away from the story.

I received this ebook at no charge via AudioBookBoom in exchange for an honest review, so my honest opinion is this: Heed the warnings. This book is very graphic and violent, so if you don't have a stomach for that, you will not enjoy this book in any way. If, however, you like that sick and twisted stuff, you will enjoy the heck out of this, as long as you aren't looking for a happy ending.

More gore than horror

I did not enjoy this. I am not afraid of gore, I do not shy away from something just because it's gross.
This book was listed as "extreme horror" but there was hardly "horror" except maybe "horrific" situations and "horrible" writing...
It wasn't for me personally, because it was like reading the dream diary of a serial killer and his fantasies of what he'd like to do to people.

I am in no way saying that nobody would like this book, but be aware that you are getting not a scary horror book, but a book that simple uses gore for shock value. The writing style isn't great, either, so it didn't even have that redeeming quality.

If you love gore, you may like this. But even if you like gore, you may not walk away entertained. It was just gross, not entertaining.

Twisted

Was Return to Hell Texas worth the listening time?

This book was truly twisted in the best sense of the word. I am not a big horror book fan, but it was interesting. It is refreshing when the unexpected occurs. I haven't read the original book, but I got the jist of it from this sequel. It is very graphic and the characters are definitely ones that won't be easily forgotten. If you got a kick out of Rob Zombie movies, this will be right up your alley. The narrator did a good job as well.

It left me shocked and grossed me out quite a bit. There was a couple parts that made me shudder

What does David Quimby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

he knows when to use inflections and when to keep it monotone to show the state of mind all these characters are in depending on their circumstances for being in Hell, Texas.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the end... when the new leader explained his plans for the future of Hell, Texas, and it's scary to think people like that really are out there.... in plain sight

#1 READ-EXTREME HORROR AT ITS BEST- LIKE NO OTHER!

If you could sum up Return to Hell Texas in three words, what would they be?

Disturbing, Dark and Vicious

What other book might you compare Return to Hell Texas to and why?

Other than Hell Texas, I don't think I could compare this book to any other. This book is a stand out extreme horror. Tim Miller outdone himself writing this book. He makes the characters and the story line so realistic that it makes you consider the possibility that this could or is happening. I have never enjoyed a book of this genre as much as I have with Return to Hell Texas. I rank this book as #1 in this genre and look forward to more of Tims' books. Kudos to both Tim Miller and David Quimby for knocking this book out of the park. From the writing to the narration, this book is perfection. Tim and David are quite a team when it comes to Return to Hell Texas. I hope to listen to more of this dynamite duo in the future. Thank you for an excellent book.

What about David Quimby’s performance did you like?

From the first sentence David Quimby had me captivated. He has the perfect voice for narration .. especially for this genre! His voice is clear and crisp with excellent cadence and inflection. David has the ability with his voice to add the exact amount of creep/scare factor to this book that brings readers to the edge of their seats. David brings each character to life for you and has the ability to bring the words of Tim Miller to life in your head and create a picture for you in your imagination that you probably could not imagine on your own. I thoroughly enjoy listening to David narrate and will look for other books that he has loaned his voice to.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had an extreme reaction to the entire book. I was horrified at the brutality that other humans can inflict on each other. I was sickened at some parts but I enjoy this type of book. This book is not for the weak of mind or stomach.

OMFGosh! Sick, Twisted, and Warped ~ I Love It!!

Would you listen to Return to Hell Texas again? Why?

Absolutely! I already have listened to it more than once. Why? Because it is a warped story and I appreciate the narration.

This second installment of Tim Miller's Hell Texas Series is something else. The more I listen to Mr. Miller's stories of horror ~ the more I fall in Love with his writing style. Crisp, clean, and very picturesque.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hard to say. They are twisted. If I had to choose it would be Lacy. Why? Because of the scenes she was in.

Have you listened to any of David Quimby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I have listened to him. David Quimby is Amazing! The way he vividly presents the various character's voices and keeps them straight is outstanding. Gotta Love that in an audio book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, the scenes with Lacy and Rufus.

Any additional comments?

Holy SNAP! That was not the ending I expected either... It freaked me out... it was better.

I was gifted an audio version of this book by thev author/publisher in exchange for an honest review. No renumeration was involved.
