Summary

Winner of the Nebula Award for Best Novel, Red Mars is the first book in Kim Stanley Robinson's best-selling trilogy. Red Mars is praised by scientists for its detailed visions of future technology. It is also hailed by authors and critics for its vivid characters and dramatic conflicts.

For centuries, the red planet has enticed the people of Earth. Now an international group of scientists has colonized Mars. Leaving Earth forever, these 100 people have traveled nine months to reach their new home. This is the remarkable story of the world they create - and the hidden power struggles of those who want to control it.

Although it is fiction, Red Mars is based on years of research. As living spaces and greenhouses multiply, an astonishing panorama of our galactic future rises from the red dust. Through Richard Ferrone's narration, each scene is energized with the designs and dreams of the extraordinary pioneers.

Best book I've read,

More fiction than science fiction very to date of how hard to live on Mars, the planet atmosphere and people trying to live there and with each other

great story, week narration

I love this book I've read it twice and now listened to it, but the narrator's brutalisation of even normal words is jarring. even that can't diminish the story though.

Astonishing

l was unsure going into this book weather it would hold up to so many great reviews from other writers, but it goes beyond and more. Great characters, great writing which flow between environment, distance and events. Kim Stanley Robinson deals with the science, politics and economics with such skill and gives the reader a 'what if' this happen and how the human race will deal with it.
Superbly narrated as well. 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ on to Green Mars....

Great performance from Richard Ferrone

I've read this trilogy many times ranking it as one of the best works of SF. I wanted to see if I could enjoy hearing this story through an audiobook. I was a new way of rediscovering the lives of Sax, Maya, John, Nadia, etc...
I greatly enjoyed this format and Richard does an outstanding job in narrating with passion and consistency. Recommended.

Interesting Readl

Very detailed but an interesting analysis of how we might do the same harm on another planet as we have on Earth by our greed and in attention to the voice of nature. The examination of characters is extremely good.

Why did I wait so long?

I’ve had this book in my queue for several years, but I’ve been avoiding it. Maybe I thought it was too long, maybe too much hard, dry SF. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong! It IS long, but definitely not boring! There are a lot of hard science facts, but they are not odious. In fact, the book was fascinating and entertaining. A great book about Mars, a sub-genre that I love. The narrator was good.
