Summary

What would it be like for modern listeners to sit down beside Jesus as he explained the Bible to them? What life-changing insights might emerge from such a transformative encounter?

Lois Tverberg knows the treasures that await listeners willing to learn how to see the Bible through Jewish eyes. By helping them understand the Bible as Jesus and his first-century listeners would have, she bridges the gaps of time and culture in order to open the Bible to listeners today.

Combining careful research with engaging prose, Tverberg leads us on a journey back in time to shed light on how this Middle Eastern people approached life, God, and each other. She explains age-old imagery that we often misinterpret, allowing us to approach God and the stories and teachings of Scripture with new eyes. By helping listeners grasp the perspective of its original audience, she equips them to hear the Bible in ways that will enrich their lives and deepen their understanding.

Excellent clear description

Very useful read. It’s acts as a window into Hebraic Jesus, and is a good starting point for folk.

Not Quite What I Expected...

I think that I was expecting a chapter by chapter in depth insight into BC2000 to AD150 (or whatever the timeline for the bible is! I’m at that level of cluelessness)! It wasn’t exactly that! However, it WAS informative and I did learn a lot on just this first listen. This is a book that needs several passes through it, to fully gain an appreciation for it and the gems it holds. My one nitpick. It’s personal and not objective: I don’t really like the narrators’ voice!! I find it irritating. I can kinda tune it out, but sometimes that makes it harder to follow. So I’ve bought the book as well, so that I don’t get distracted. So my recommendation is - buy the Kindle book first, and get audiobook at the reduced price, simultaneously.

Enlightening

This book really helps with understanding the bible. Also I found the richness of Hebrew words in that they are able to communicate so much more compared to English words quite fascinating. The narration was pleasant to listen to also. Would highly recommend.

Very informative.

I learned many new ways of looking at the scriptures. The more Christians understand Yeshua, the better we will be able to live like He did. The first step to understanding Him is to look at the scriptures like He did. Lois does a great job of introducing the Hebrew method of looking at scripture. The performance of the narrator was very good as well.

Fantastic

The author makes it easy for most people to understand but at the same time she launches into some major discoveries and ideas. Chapter 10 is a game changer. Appendix B is perfection

Excellent study of Hebrew background and language in the Bible

I could barely put this one down. I enjoy the recording but often wished I could be sitting with my Bible, uninterrupted and taking notes!!!

An easy yet helpful guide to a deeper understanding

An excellent aid to the modern student of Scripture. It may be helpful to listen to her book that precedes this one; however, it’s not mandatory.

Thank you.

It is my sincere hope that Lois may get to read my review, in that I am eternally grateful! From the Jewish insights, citation of supporting references as well as biblical. The presentation resonated with me as a basic Western thinker all my life having a sound feeling in the back of my mind of impending condemnation even though intellectually I know that there is now no condemnation for those in Gods anointed King Jesus. Thank you.

A needed help for this Westerner

I was amazed as I heard the cultural background of familiar Bible text! I have now purchased the paper copy of the book and will use it as a Bible study tool to go deeper as I meditate on God's word. I recommend this title, regardless of how long you been saved. It is sure to give you 'fresh eyes and ears' as you read, study and meditate.

No real biblucal teaching

I learned nothing new about scripture and the cultural references seemed superficial and not really relevant.

Fantastic book!

This is a wonderful addition to any Christian’s library, but particularly for those of us who feel a special reverence for and attachment to the Old Testament and to our Jewish brothers and sisters traditions.
