About this listen
A backwoods bar run by a shape-shifter. A road that changes length, direction, and destination. A young man, lost in the forest and dying, hears the cry of a raven.
Set in a dystopic near future, Raven Woman’s Tavern is the story of a collection of survivalists who are squatting in the remains of a dead timber town in the Northwest.
The residents - most of them old, sick, and in need - help each other by means legal and extralegal under the watchful eye of Rachel, the tavern keeper. When the peace of the community is disturbed by the sudden visit of four members of the local militia, the survivalists are frightened; not all of them are law-abiding and some are not citizens.
But, as Crazy Mary said to Charlie the Poet, “You don't piss Rachel off. She's got her ways."

A strange but engrossing story
This is a strange story, but I found it engrossing and listened to it in one sitting. In a future ravaged by climate change a few people live in a remote ghost town and wait to die, protected and assisted by an ancient spirit of the Raven. It reads like a series of linked character tales that form one narrative, I really enjoyed the characters who are well described . I also liked the way the story focusses on the small number of characters and their lives and although it go into details of the effects of climate change it makes the story about them rather than the big picture. I enjoyed the strange touches in the story and the supernatural elements which are quite subtle, The narrator does an excellent job with the story making it a pleasure to listen to. I received a complimentary copy from the narrator and am leaving a voluntary honest review.
