Summary
A scrappy, hot-blooded woman can only take so much! Violet Parker is on fire...or rather under fire yet again. New evidence has fanned the embers of a cold murder case, and her alibi is smoldering at the corners. While battling a dogged detective determined to pin the murder on her, Violet scrambles to find the real killer. Will she escape "the heat" with singed tail feathers? Or will Violet go down in flames?

Brilliant adaptation
These stories just get better and better. Violet has plenty going on in her life, detective Hawk is determind to arrest her for murder. Detevtive Copper has been tasked with keeping an eye on Violet the poor man. Her parents are coming to see her new boyfriend along with her sister ( the devils concubine).
These stories are brilliant, full of humour steam and things that go bump in the night, THe twists and turns keep hapening. I am off to listen to the next story.

Disappointing and dull
This had all the elements of a fun narrative, some occult mixed in with family conflict and a bit of romance. However, the cultural references and writing are somewhat immature, how many grown women actually refer to nougies? Too much yapping and not enough action, takes too long to get anywhere in the story. Needed a good editor. Included as a freebie on Audible.

Really like these books
But what I don't like is how Ray & Coop as well as some others are constantly putting Violet down, swearing at her calling her names and she mostly just takes it. But even worse is DR hearing it and never saying a thing to stick up for her. I'd like to see Violet have some decent comebacks to put those people in there place

I love this series.
Ann has another big hit. I love the characters and the humor. This is another good story. The reader does a great job. These books of Ann's are great from the first word to the last.

I love this Series
This was book 8 in the "Deadwood" series. Violet "Sparky" Parker is once again under fire she is being accused of another murder and she has to clear her name. With the gang having her back Violet has to work hard at her second job and with all the other things going on in her life. Her relationship with Doc continues to grow with her parents coming to town and her she devil of a sister Susan. Det. Hawke is still convinced of her guilt in the murder of Mrs. Wolfe and believes he just needs to wait for some evidence to be processed before he can arrest her. Cooper and Violet continue there back and fourth as he is assigned to her and neither of them likes it. Because of houseguest Doc is unable to sneak in and out of her room. Violet is also dealing with her scheming coworkers Ray and Tiffany doing all they can to steal her clients and cause trouble at work for her. This book seemed to me spookier than the others it had a lot going on in it. This was a really good book this series continues to get better and better. I love all of the kooky weird characters in this series. I also love that Ms. Charles continues to use humor also with mystery. I also love the narration as I listened to this book on audio. I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series.

finally getting good
story drags slot, three are little branches of stores that are more confusing and nonsense than worth it. ic Tiffany and Rex
narrator and voices make the story worth listening. characters have taken a long time to develop but now questions have been answered and starting to get good

Explicit sex did not add to the story
Very good story. Explicit sex scene did not add to the story line and could have been left out. Other than that I really enjoyed this.

Good story, but swearing excessive, gratuitous
I"m relatively thick-skinned about foul language, but it's just so pervasive here as to be a detractor from an otherwise entertaining, albeit quirky, story. It's Luke seasoning with salt, a pinch gives flavor, but dump in a whole cup full of it, and it becomes impossible to enjoy.

Such a fun series with a wacky set of characters, witty writing and steamy romance.
