About this listen

Despite the long struggle to eliminate racism, it is still very much with us. In fact, since 9/11, racism appears to be on the rise, making it more important than ever before to understand the meaning of race and the effect it has on society. Alana Lentin maps the emergence and development of ideas about race, right up to modern debates about multiculturalism and Islamophobia, and considers the implications of a ‘post-racial’ society at a time when science has placed genetics over culture. This invaluable resource exposes the roots of racial thought and demonstrates why it has remained a component to our everyday lives.

Editor reviews

Despite all the strides we as a society have taken, racism is still something we all experience or observe on a nearly daily basis. True, there have been lots of positive movements, but after 9/11 we saw definitive shift in people’s attitudes toward race. Thankfully, political sociologist, Alana Lentin, has put together an accessible and engaging audiobook that takes a hard look at various ideas on race, multiculturalism, and the effect they have on society. Performed with a confident and assuring delivery from veteran Rodney Gardiner, this audiobook is a great introduction to many of the racial debates transpiring today.

Very interesting introduction to racism but...

This is an excellent and thought-provoking introduction to the thorny subject of racism. It is spoilt however the narrator who does not seem to understand what he is reading and consequently quite obviously obscures the meaning. I bought the paperback in the end because I couldn't cope with the mispronunciations, miscomprehensions and general misses of this narrator.
