Summary

Dark secrets and forbidden love threaten the very survival of the Shadowhunters in Cassandra Clare’s Queen of Air and Darkness, the final novel in the number one New York Times and USA Today best-selling The Dark Artifices trilogy. Queen of Air and Darkness is a Shadowhunters novel.

What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

Honestly his performance made this for me! Though sadly now I have found out that the next books in the series are yet to be released.

As usual a totally awesome story

Cassandras usual gripping story, with character loving filled events is still alive. Loved it just as much as I have her previous books and was so happy James Marsters was back for another narration. James makes these books come alive with his easy to listen to voice and steady pace and is one of my favourite . For lovers of Cassandras books, you will not be dissappointed

A fabulous last book!

This is a large book and takes time to listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed James Marsters reading and he bought to life the characters beautifully. I was there with James and Emma as they battled through their love for each other and fought the cohort.
This series has always been YA but even though I am 51 it does not impede my delight at listening.
I'm not going to include any spoilers but I did have tears on a few occasions and like real life the book is not a finish but leads on to the next adventure in the epilogue.

Perfect

A perfect end to an epic trilogy. I just can’t wait for the next part of the ShadowHunter Chronicles.
James Marsters is an excellent narrator and the voices he gives the different characters are so unique and distinctive that it make the story all that much more immersive. Extremely enjoyable audiobook, highly recommend

Such a pleasure to be back with the shadowhunters

These books are so good, you get taken back into shadowhunter worlds, previous favourite characters return.
You laugh you cry, its awesome. The narrator of the last two books was absolutely brilliant, I wasn't keen on the narrator of the first one of the three, it was a little wooden. This narrator was brilliant, bringing all the characters to life. it really is an experience. If you loved the mortal instruments then this is just perfect for you. Highly recommended.

Air fairies and family bonds

I have listened to the last two books of the series - perfectly narrated by James Marsters. The story is really enjoyable - imaginative and exciting, but it should be made clear that these are definitely young adult books. None of the main characters are over 20, there is a lot of coyness about sex and many plot lines turn on the misunderstanding of not communicating what's going on emotionally. It's all a bit drawn out but I really liked the portrayal of a family going through many problems. The inclusion of gay and transgender characters is refreshing and there is even some polyamory. Themes of sacrifice and different kinds of love are explored in depth, along with a detailed depiction of faery and the different ways of thinking that the inhabitants of faery might have. There's lots of excitement, deception and conflict. If I had known it was young adult literature I probably wouldn't have listened, but I'm not sorry I did.
