About this listen

Ricky France-Lynch had a large crumbling estate, a nine-goal polo handicap, and a beautiful wife who was fair game for anyone with a cheque book. He also had the adoration of fourteen-year-old Perdita MacLeod who couldn’t wait to become a polo player. The polo set were ritzy, and gloriously promiscuous. Perdita was a brat who loved only her horses and Ricky France-Lynch…

With Ricky's obsession to win back his wife, and Perdita's to win both Ricky and a place as a top-class polo player, listeners, get ready to be taken on a wild journey!

Read this book when it first came out and loved it. So excited to get the audio version. The narration is poor and irritating. Very monotone. The awful “ huhs” at the end of sentences to indicate humour. However she can’t destroy the book. Wish they would stick with the narrator of Riders who was excellent.

A long listen but very entertaining. Got lots of sewing done whilst learning about Polo.

The accents are a little annoying but easy to tell characters apart, onto the next book

The story is amazing

Read this back in 1991 for the first time and have read it many times since. The audible version does it full justice. Still one of the best novels ever.

Still one of the best

Great narration. Good story with the return of some much loved characters. The time will fly by while listening. Can't wait to listen to the next one.

Always makes me shed a tear. Daisy is such a lovely person.
I can empathise with Poor littePerdita.

Read this book so many times. Simply the best!

Glorious romp of a read. Narrator warms up after chapter 3 so don’t be put off if you find it jarring after listening to the more recent Rivals audible. This is saucier than Rivals so perfect listen for a boring commute. Gender stereotypes and roles have travelled surprisingly well from 1987 to 2024. Loved the role reversal of final scene

Hooked!
