About this listen
Ricky France-Lynch had a large crumbling estate, a nine-goal polo handicap, and a beautiful wife who was fair game for anyone with a cheque book. He also had the adoration of fourteen-year-old Perdita MacLeod who couldn’t wait to become a polo player. The polo set were ritzy, and gloriously promiscuous. Perdita was a brat who loved only her horses and Ricky France-Lynch…
With Ricky's obsession to win back his wife, and Perdita's to win both Ricky and a place as a top-class polo player, listeners, get ready to be taken on a wild journey!

They have to be taken with a large pinch of salt and as a product of their time because they are somewhat racist, sexist, sizeist and homophobic by our modern standards. But still a romping good yarn with gorgeous memorable characters and a great storyline.
Indulgence

I have decided to make it a tradition to read a Jilly novel in the Autumn. Her writing is so good you can just envelop yourself in an epic story.
I am not going to say nothing bad happens because bad things really do happen but if bad things can't happen in a world you have built then good things can't either.
You can't call something a bodice ripper without good reason and make no mistake there are a lot of graphic sex scenes but I was one of those people guilty of thinking that was all a Jilly novel comprised of and it just isn't. That's but just one of her many trademarks. The others being world building. caricters you either love, or love to hate and a wicked sense of humour.
It is worth also remembering that these early books were written 40 odd years ago and are probably more reflective of the social attitudes of those times. However I see Jilly as before her time in satirising such attitudes.
I here by declare I am a convert. I am now living proof it is possible to read Tolstoy and Jilly at the same time and appreciate both for their own merits.
I'm such a Jilly Fan
