About this listen
Online, influencer Abby Allerton is savvy, relevant, and empowered due to her Instagram profiles Plus-Size Real and Femme Fatale, but IRL not so much—she’s sadly stagnant and in need of an upgrade.
When the #BTSPFW invite drops into her inbox, Abby can’t help but say, “Oui, oui, this is for me!” and do whatever it takes to get on the next plane to Paris for an exclusive behind-the-scenes Fashion Week event!
As she navigates Paris with all the culturally perceived imperfection she seems to embody, Abby feels thrown into the catacombs of body image. Determined to be unabashedly herself, she ends up making friends in haute places, and it turns out Abby might just have what it takes to launch a couture coup d’etat!

What made this book even more special for me is how personally relatable Abby’s journey was. Much like the author, I’ve lived in five countries and have multicultural, multiethnic children. Our family is constantly navigating what it means to belong and how identity is shaped by so many intersecting factors. Seeing Abby wrestle with her sense of self, her place in the world, and her own worth felt incredibly familiar and deeply resonant.
I also have to give a shoutout to the audiobook, which I listened to as well. The narrators were phenomenal, capturing Abby’s tone perfectly and making me feel every emotion right along with her.
This story is not just about Paris or size—it’s about identity, resilience, and learning to love who you are. It’s one of those rare books that stays with you long after the final page. I can’t recommend it enough!
