Summary

On July 22, 2009, a special meeting was held with 24 leading scientists at the National Institutes of Health to discuss early findings that a newly discovered retrovirus was linked to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), prostate cancer, lymphoma, and eventually neurodevelopmental disorders in children. When Dr. Judy Mikovits finished her presentation the room was silent for a moment, then one of the scientists said, "Oh my God!" The resulting investigation would be like no other in science. For Dr. Mikovits, a 20-year veteran of the National Cancer Institute, this was the midpoint of a five-year journey that would start with the founding of the Whittemore-Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease at the University of Nevada, Reno, and end with her as a witness for the federal government against her former employer, Harvey Whittemore, for illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. On this journey, Dr. Mikovits would face the scientific prejudices against CFS, wander into the minefield that is autism, and through it all struggle to maintain her faith in God and the profession to which she had dedicated her life. This is a story for anybody interested in the peril and promise of science at the very highest levels in our country.

A story everyone should, unfortunate flat delivery

The narrator sounds very metallic and disinterested, like a monotonous robot, more akin to a good text-to-speech engine where the pronunciation has been mastered than an engaged human being. This is most unfortunate because the story is quite intense to follow and would have been transformed by a reader who sounded like they were actually alive. After listening to some fantastic audiobook narration, this was a disappointment; doubly so because the story is of some importance and the reader should be encouraged to work through it.

There is quite a bit of the story to pay attention to including the back-story, the science, the dynamic between all the different actors, and the linear explanation of events. Therefore, it may necessitate putting up with the voice. Nevertheless, the benefit of sticking with it is worth it simply for what you will learn.

nicely narrated. important information. it brings up a lot of questions and gives an insight into the medical scientific world and why some things get precedent over others.

Brilliant, captivating and eye-opening

This book is a very interesting read if one wants to hear 'the other side of the fence' in the fierce debate between pro- and anti-vaxers. If you are a person seeking to understand where the tuth lies, you cannot go without this book when you weigh both sides of the atguments, however, you should be prepared that there is some scientific jargon to grapple with! For the inquisitive and persistant who likes to research things and find out new knowledge, the jargon would not be major hurdle but will pay off with a deeper understanding of the discourse on vaccines and how science behind closed doors in the labs work. If there is any one book that must be read by a person who sides with the 'anti-vaxer' community - this is it!

From a CFS victim

I have thoroughly enjoyed being enlightened to the truth of the cause of many of todays chronic illnesses. Thank you so much to the authors for writing this book.
There is a heroine & villains but this is no fairy tale.
Brain fog made it difficult for me to read and so I took advantage of the audible edition too.
It is important for suffers as well as friends & family members, to know & understand the devastation of CFS.
JUDY MIKOVITS is right there is a God & there will be justice.
The world needs to know!

incredible

Incredible story of Malkovitzs bravery, commitment and genius in the face of greed, treachery, sexism and deceit within the patriarchal scientific and political community causing millions of deaths.

Ignore the negative reviews if you are ill you nee

I looked at this book a few years ago but was mislead by what I now suspect were false reviews to help discredit the author, read the book and you'll know why, those of us that are ill live in a parallel universe every day and any hope of treatment is carefully brushed under the carpet by "science",thats why this book is so important ,instruct your lawyer to read it if you have not been devastated economically by ME.We need to take action and in light of what is currently happening around the world today even more so and investigate possible vaccine contamination before the new coronavirus potentially sends many more people to a life of hell through "mysterious" illnesses!

an insight into what you won't be told by your dr

if you are trying to get your head around cfs
/me and like to make your own mind up about things rather than be told what to think...then this is the book for you!
In this book another side to what this debilitating condition is all about is discussed and referenced. plenty if food for thought for the Dr carer or sufferer. Current and up to date.

Well Read But Deceptive

From the title and summary of this book, I fully expected some actual science, so you can imagine my disappointment when I discovered that the co-authors seem to specialise in anti-vaccine pseudoscience. A shame, I'd been hoping for some interesting information about a condition I actually struggle with.
