Story
Mab's mum is obsessed with fairies—she even named Mab after the Fairy Queen! Their flat is full of fairy ornaments, tiny fairy furniture and they've even got fairy lights in the toilet. Mab doesn't quite get it, but she knows that fairies make her mum happy, especially after Dad left. When Mab comes into school with a new fairy dress on her birthday, her teacher gives her a book all about Victorian fairies. She reads it with her mum and her little brother Robin, and she's surprised to see the drawings inside are nothing like the sweet fairies she imagined.

Summary
Pippi Longstocking lives in a house with a horse, a monkey, a suitcase full of gold, and no grown-ups to tell her what to do. She's wild and funny and full of crazy ideas! One of the most popular children's characters of all time, Pippi's unique spirit and wonderful tales have been entertaining readers and listeners for 75 years.
Critic reviews
"Pippi is in the great tradition of children's protagonists who subvert the adult world, whether by questioning it, like Alice, or simply throwing it into chaos, like Dr Seuss's Cat in the Hat." (Sean French, The Guardian)

A celebration of the ridiculous
Astrid Lingstren’s creation of Pippi Longstocking is an inspired and delightful characterisation of the child in all of us. Pippi is a parentless girl who exercises choice and prioritises fun and kindness but also works hard and is strong and fearless in everything she does. She is a role model and superhero for all children in all times.
