Challenging but as good as usual

Level 5 carries seamlessly straight on from the last unit of level 4. I have found level 5 more demanding than the previous units as there is now a lot more of the past tense (both the past continuous and the past specific occasion). What with the two forms of the verb "to be" and the two forms of the past tense of the two forms of "to be" (one of which we don't have in English) it is quite a challenge. I guess that continuous use or submersion in the language would eventually result in automatically using the correct forms. I always listen to a block of 5 units, then listen to the same 5 again. It is a relief to get a lot more of it correct the second time round! I am happy to improve my Spanish with this wonderful course that I can listen to whilst doing the house work and feel like I am making some real progress!

Very poor communication

A novel idea; how about telling the student that we're working on the following verbs today and their respective conjugations for preterito perfecto and futuro. Then tell the verb and the sentence that's being constructed. With that the orators could pronounce the words clearly, even telling why and when you use words like estoy and soy, and try not to drop back to guttural speech they learned growing up. In these first 5 chapters, you have to incisively ascertain which verb, which tense, and the terrible way they run words up onto the back of the next word, having absolutely no explanation of what words are being said. For example, they might say, hace but it could be asi, and so on. This all puts a damper on clear, concise, sentence building.

On the plus side, my language skills are growing by using these recordings.
