Summary

After being court-martialed by the Space Legion for ordering the strafing of a treaty-signing ceremony, multimillionaire Willard Phule receives his punishment: He must command the misfit Omega Company on Haskin's Planet, a mining settlement on the edge of settled space. At his duty station, he leverages his personal money and a knack for managing people to get the company to come together as a unit. Phule convinces the governor to leave the contract for an honorary duty up for competition between the Space Legionnaires and the Regular Army. The Army sends some of their most elite troops to take part in the competition, but Phule's company operates with their own unique tactics....

Brilliant Book

Any additional comments?

I came back to audible after finishing the book to find any other in the series to buy but unfortunately there isn't any more yet. I guess I'll have to wait. I loved the book, I was rapt in in the whole time. Too short for how good it was. I can't wait for the next one. I always like that kind of character, who is full of wit and act decisively in any situation.

A light-hearted, old fashioned, adventure story

This is a light-hearted, easy to listen to, upbeat adventure story. In many ways this novel is very old fashioned. Although it was written in 1990, many of the characters would be at home in a P. G. Wodehouse story. Phule's Company contains technology, and social attitudes, which feel a bit dated today, but its humor is timeless. The narration is excellent – the narrator uses old fashioned accents to read an old fashioned story.

If you are a fan of the Discworld...

...then the Phull's Company series will not be disappointed. Excellently narrated, who would not want the style of Discworld transferred to a sci-fi setting akin to Star Trek/Firefly

Audii Didn't Disappoint

Possibly my all time favourite set of books. Very enjoyable and easy to read. I've read and re-read them all and love the characters and style. This audio version is great. Please hurry and release the rest.

Fantastic!

Read this book back in the day and thought I would give the audiobook a go. I was not disappointed. The story was just as good as I remembered and the audio delivery by Noah was superb! I love Robert Aspirin’s books, each and every one, and listening to this felt like visiting old friends. I will most definitely be getting all that audible has to offer.

Brilliant

Military foolishness
I read the series years ago, and when I became a member of audible I regularly checked in the hope that I might find them.
The wait was well worth it., the narrator is great with excellent characterisations.
There is a touch of Terry Pratchett's discworld humour and riculousness
in it.

Very Light Hearted Sci-Fi Romp

Okay, you will have to check your sense of the serious at the door. Like many of Robert Asprin’s books, this is a farce - in the true comedic sense.

The entire premise is vaguely ridiculous, but applied with such a deft hand you don’t really notice the extreme levels of entitlement that the main character possesses as it is the mechanism used to raise all the other characters up. I laughed, got a lump in my throat (okay I may have gotten a little over-invested), and I have reread it again and again. It’s like a quick warm hug from a funny auntie.

I found the second in the series equally enjoyable, but with the coauthor from book 3 it began to get tiresome...

Blast from the past

I read this story as a child in the 90's and loved it then. Hearing the audio version brought back great memories. Good narration and fun story. A bit dated but always love a good Sci-Fi stab at future technologies.
