Editor reviews
Penny's an irascible young girl who thinks old people are boring and the idea of being seen in a pretty pink dress is gross. But through her diary we see her open up to Mrs. Bettany a lonely widow who lives at a nursing home. The two find each other kindred spirits, talking about their lives and love of horses. Rebecca Macauley has a lot of fun performing this audiobook speeding along like a highly opinionated young girl excitedly making new discoveries, and also voicing the earnest, steadfast Mrs. Bettany with calm serenity. There's a lot of humor and a lot of heart here that will delight listeners, young and old.
Summary
It is not that she likes praying, but what else can Penny Pollard do when Mum announces that they are selling the house? Suddenly, the thought of no longer going to Kooringa Primary doesn't seem so appealing. Inspired by a school project on saints, Penny decides to leave it all in the hands of "trouble-shooter" Saint Jude - after all, he's apparently quite good, and not just with ordinary problems, but with impossible ones.

Critic reviews
"Rebecca Macauley excels at portraying youngsters of both sexes and the elderly astonishingly well. She presents Penny's diary entries with just the right verve." ( AudioFile)
