Could not listen to this

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I can hardly believe this awful narration, It sounds like it's a CD going wrong. and is impossible to follow because of the incomprehensible style.

What other book might you compare Orley Farm to, and why?

As I could not get further than 10 minutes in, I liken it to two of Trollope's stories which I didn't like
Sir Harry Hotspur of Humblethwaite
Harry Heathcote of Gangoil

Would you be willing to try another one of Flo Gibson’s performances?

Definitely not

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

all of the above.

Um

This book is not his best. However it was almost ruined by the narrator. Her delivery was much too fast and her attempts at English dialects risible.

Dreary effort

All of the Trollopes on Audible are engaging. But what a sad choice of a narrator for this one. Totally ruins the story. Too much of an effort to suffer through her reading. Sorry: no more Flo Gibson. Do listen to the sample to see if you can stand it before you buy!

A great, almost tragic story of love and deceit

Would you listen to Orley Farm again? Why?

This is a compelling story of great psychological insight. Flo Gibson's reading grows on you, and she carries you along through the turns of the tale.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lady Mason, who was conflicted by her actions, and comes to realize that ultimately the love for her son was -- well, I won't give it away. It's a powerful portrait of a complicated woman.

Which character – as performed by Flo Gibson – was your favorite?

Perhaps Mrs. Furneval.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A confession -- to say more would be revealing too much of the plot.

Any additional comments?

I had at first thought Flo Gibson was rushing through the story, but her narration style grew on me, and I began to be under her sway before too long.

For the English Fiction Lover

Ever so typical of the English countryside novel. Rich descriptions, interesting characters and period relations.

Poor Narration, Typically Quaint but Slow Trollope

Poor Narration, Typically Quaint but Slow Trollope. Would not have gotten this audiobook after hearing the sample narration, but needed to get through it for a book club. Wouldn’t otherwise recommend this.
