Summary

Orbus continues the adventure of Captain Orbus in Neal Asher's high-octane, science fiction Spatterjay series.

A cold war is turning white hot.

Old Captain Orbus commandeered a ship to flee Spatterjay, desperate to escape the violent planet. Orbus’s alien enemy, the Prador Vrell, is also moving on. The Spatterjay virus mutated him into something even more dangerous. And he’s hunting the Prador King himself – who sought to kill him, to bury the secret of their similar transformations.

Orbus and Vrell clash in the Graveyard, a lawless zone where the Prador have seized a key space station. Official action by humanity or Prador would end peace, as a centuries-long cold war simmers. So Earth commands Orbus to destroy the station, even as the King recruits a monster to exterminate Vrell. But their actions will awaken an intelligence that annihilated civilizations, as it stirs after five million years . . .

Excellent story in the Spatterjay series.

Really well narrated story with plenty of twists and turns. I'm hoping there'll be another in the series.

The capstone

What a book but more importantly what and end to a trilogy. I wanted it to keep going like an old captain. And Sniper is now my favorite flying Yorkshire killer war drone. Superbly done Mr Asher.

Best book of the trilogy

By far the best if the three books. The pace is cracking and the fight scenes are Asher at his best. As for the Narration: it’s brilliant. The voices became like old friends. I especially loved the gruff Yorkshireman accent given to the irascible war drone, Sniper. I’d never have imagined that in a Parador lifetime, But now I have heard it’s a perfect fit.

An excellent conclusion for the serie

Solid Asher writing, nothing utterly new but neither dissappointing. A fluent, pleasurable, captivating story. 5 star voice acting.

If you love Ian M Banks, this will blow you away. I'm off to download the rest of Neal Asher.
He is now one of my favorites of all time.

Very well read and enjoyable story

If you could sum up Orbus in three words, what would they be?

Perfectly reasonable SciFi. Enjoyed it very much and the William Gaminara added a great deal to that sense of enjoyment.

amazing

Absolutely loved this book. The action was gripping and the science felt entirely plausible. I have read the previous two novels in the same universe set on the same planet, so had a basis for reading in the first place. But I think that this stands on its own, without the need for reading the other two. Also the narration seemed to have the perfect pitch to compliment the prose. I never felt that the wrong choice had been made, which is often a complaint I have in regards to audio books. All in all I recommend this and will certainly be looking for other Neal Asher books in the future.
