There is a place in modern-day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition. In this place there is a boy with the body of a god and the heart of a warrior. Story
As a lowly Baron’s daughter, I sit on the outskirts of the noble circle, watching the royal family from afar: exactly where I’d rather be. To me, that world was anything but magical or fantasy. While their lives were under a relentless microscope, controlled by traditions and expectations, I was the girl dreaming about becoming a veterinarian and surrounding myself with animals instead of people. A wallflower who suddenly bloomed, I somehow nabbed the attention of the arrogant, but undeniably handsome, Theodore Alexander Philip Robert David Livingston, Prince of Great Victoria.

When wilderness guide Harper Ward is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage. Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man: a scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison.

Summary
A bed posed on a stage under a dazzling spotlight. An audience of hungry eyes. And him, the other half of my soul, our supple bodies moving as one....
Sundara: the lush and forbidden oasis in the desert where men travel to watch acts of sexual deviancy, and the only existence 17-year-old Karys has ever known. But despite a life where secrets and sin are in high supply, and freedom remains far beyond their reach, Karys and her partner, Zakai, find safety in each other, their passionate love the light that helps them both survive the darkness.
Very suddenly, Karys and Zakai find themselves in the bright and confusing world of New York City, navigating separation, school, and relatives who are all but strangers. If they've been found, why do they still feel so lost? As their new lives threaten to drive them apart, and Zakai spins out of her grasp, Karys must figure out who and what can be trusted in this strange city, seemingly filled with more venom than the desert they once called home.

Mia does it again!
Oh my gosh I loved this book. I just discovered Mia Sheridan a few months back and have been working my way through all of her books. Have yet to find one I didn't like. This story was absolutely beautiful. I fell in love with both characters immediately and was rooting for them the whole time. When Caryss heart broke, so did mine. I felt all of her love and pain and just wanted her to be happy. I was so angry at Zakai for so long but he redeemed himself in the end. I'll be honest it was a bit difficult to read because it was gut wrenching, but definitely worth the journey.

Whaaaaat the f*ck did I just listen to?
Some twisted adult circus in a desert? Make sure to have tissues nearby 😭 and there's some questionably cringey stuff in this but these types of stories are always about the aftermath and the new struggles and coping mechanisms the characters learn. As always, wonderfully written ❤ and sooo bittersweet.
My one beef is Connor only reading the epilogue 😖 I get why, and Trina was AMAZING, but 😢 more Connor please?

Two Souls Truly One and needed to grow
From the title of this book doesnt put this book to justice. One child being protected from the environment she is surrounded by. The other enduring by his own guilt and love for the only one he has eyes for. One night they are “saved” but are separated in another city and no other way to deal with their previous life. Can they deal with the new city and life?

freak shows start with one person's perspective
Mia Sheridan I had to put Starlight down when it first got released. because it made me feel more than I could handle. I picked it back up when the audiobook came out ,already feeling the bruises of despair. please don't take it as lack of faith in your gift of restoring hope despite all odds. you just make me feel so big. the Easter eggs you left. tying this story to others that I re read routinely just gave it much more depth and cleverly led me to an epiphany. perspective changes the meaning in any event. it's how one person can create a family while another sees a freakshow. i will probably never be able to read one of your books straight through the first time but I am never disappointed when I go back ready to battle my way back alongside your heroic characters . thank you

Once We Were Starlight…this story is an amazing journey…it takes you through years of experiences for Karys and Zakai, two lovestruck kids taken prisoner and survived for each other. They deal with painful memories and separation from each other when they are rescued and placed into a world that they do not have any experience with. It is an amazing tale, written in a style that is only Mia Sheridan’s…one that keeps you reading and engaged. I have always enjoyed reading Mia’s books and was so glad to find one that I had missed along the way. Also, the audiobook for this story was so well done and added to the written words on the page…and that is not always the case. “Once we were starlight. But now, now we were a universe.” 5-stars is probably not enough.

Very unique story
This author proved yet again why she is one of my very favorite talents in the publishing word. She tackled a very current day serious issue while managing to infuse it with believable pathos, justice, redemption, forgiveness and hope. Check out her duet novels BECOMING CALDER and FINDING EDEN if you gave this one a chance, and then read ARCHER'S VOICE for more of her brilliance.
Performances - I admire a voice actor's commitment to an emotional delivery but I think the female narrator should have toned it done just a tad. Overall, I liked her acting style for both genders and would listen to a lighter themed audiobook to see if she knows how to deliver a more toned down performance. 4.5 stars is my rating for her.
The male narrator only appears in the epilogue which was my favorite chapter. I'd definitely listen to another audiobook with him as a lead or the only voice actor. Great choice with him, Mia Sheridan!👌🏽 I give him 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars and 👍🏽👍🏽.
Final thoughts: I've been slowly getting my joy back for romance novels. This serious yet beautifully told story was the perfect blend of current events (for those stuck in this life and those rescued from it) and hope. Best of all, it had an epic HEA with an adorable epilogue into their future.💕

Mia Sheridan has the ability with her words to crush your heart and slowly peice it back to together again! These story broke me a million times . The narrators brought it to life so beautifully that you felt every word as if you were right there with the characters. Their journey and despair. Their hopes and dreams. Their everlasting love for each other and unbreakable bond. I loved this story so much.

Another moving story form Mia Sheridan
This is my second Mia Sheridan book. It was very different than what I was expecting. It was a beautiful story with more complexity than I thought it could have. I was deeply riveted by Karys & Zakai's story. Thank you for taking us on this journey with them, Mia. Trina Nishimura was a new to me narrator. Both Trina & Connor Crais were terrific

Great!!
Hard to read in parts due to the topic. Mia does such a good job with her characters and identifying not just the relief of their rescue but also the tragic heartache they each went through to heal.
