About this listen

At 32, Faith Frankel has returned to her claustro-suburban hometown, where she writes institutional thank-you notes for her alma mater. It's a peaceful life, really, and surely with her recent purchase of a sweet bungalow on Turpentine Lane, her life is finally on track. Never mind that her fiancé is off on a crowdfunded cross-country walk, too busy to return her texts (but not too busy to post photos of himself with a different woman in every state). And never mind her witless boss, or a mother who lives too close, or a philandering father who thinks he's Chagall. When she finds some mysterious artifacts in the attic of her new home, she wonders whether anything in her life is as it seems.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Mia Barron's spot-on timing brings out the best of the smart dialogue and understated humor in this story of contemporary life for the 30-something crowd.... Barron's delivery of quirky characters and multiple plotlines contributes to this entertaining audiobook." ( AudioFile)

Light and fluffy and very entertaining. it zoomed along quite nicely. The narration was well paced.

I heard Elinor Lipman mentioned on a books podcast, and looked for her here on Audible. What a fabulous writer!
Funny, perceptive, warm and a terrific story teller.
On Turpentine Line is a total page turner and as soon as I finished it, I wanted to buy everything else Lipman has written. But - horror! - this is the only one of hers available on Audible. I'm astonished. She has such an impressive back catalogue. Why aren't all her books here?

An absolute joy
